This is a paper-plate hanging decoration you’ll want to display in your room.

First, glue torn pieces of pink and white tissue paper onto a paper plate.

Then make a hole in the center of the plate and thread yarn tied to a straw through it.

On the opposite side, add a bead as a stopper and glue it in place.

Thread twine through the straw and attach paper hina dolls made from construction paper to the end.

Punch four holes at the bottom of the paper plate, thread yarn decorated with paper peach blossoms and circular ornaments through them, and tie to finish.

Simply changing the colors of the tissue paper and construction paper will give it a different feel.

Samurai helmet decoration made from paper platesNEW!

A kabuto decoration made from everyday paper plates is a seasonal craft idea that combines simplicity with a sense of accomplishment.

The steps are straightforward and easy to tackle, making it perfect for recreational activities for seniors and for children’s craft projects.

Since it mainly involves basic actions like folding, gluing, and coloring, it can be enjoyed without strain.

Your individuality shines through depending on your choice of colors and decorative arrangements, and pairing it with carp streamers (koinobori) creates an even more festive atmosphere.

I felt it’s a highly practical craft that can also be used for Children’s Day events.

The fact that you can display and enjoy it is a major attraction as well.

Hina dolls made with origami and paper platesNEW!

An origami and paper-plate Hina doll activity is especially appealing because you can enjoy it easily with everyday materials.

Cut a paper plate in half, then roll it into a cone so there’s a small hole at the top.

Layer and glue two half-circle pieces of origami paper on top to represent the doll’s kimono.

Next, prepare white drawing paper and cut out a shape consisting of an oval on top of an overlapping rectangle.

Draw the doll’s face on the oval, then attach hair and ornaments made from origami.

Roll the rectangle into a tube, insert it into the hole in the paper plate, spread it open inside the plate, and secure it with tape.

Finally, give the doll a fan to hold, and it’s complete! Make the male doll as well and be sure to display them side by side.

If you get creative about where you cut a round paper plate with scissors, a heart shape will appear.

Attach tissue-paper flowers to the heart-shaped plate to make a cute wreath.

Some older adults may find their hearts dancing with joy both while making it and when they see the finished piece.

Although the tissue-paper flowers give the work a delicate feel, most of the steps are simple.

It’s easy for seniors to try, and because it uses fine finger movements, it can help stimulate the brain.

By changing the flowers you add to the heart-shaped plate, you can enjoy this wreath all year round.

Try arranging it with seasonal flowers like hydrangeas or cosmos.

How about trying a “paper plate spinning top” that’s fun to play with even after you make it? Using a simple, everyday material—a paper plate—you can craft it easily, and after enjoying the making process, older adults are sure to feel like kids again as they get absorbed in spinning it! To make one, fold a paper plate in half and crease it again to form a cross, decorate it freely with markers, then tape a plastic bottle cap to the center.

It’s super easy, so it would be great for a day-service craft activity or to make and play with your grandchildren.

Let’s make a paper-plate mobile that spins amusingly in the wind.

Draw a spiral and other pictures on a paper plate.

It’s easier to draw the spiral if you start from the outside and work your way toward the center.

Adding a little twist—like turning the spiral into a snake illustration—makes it even more fun.

Decorating with stickers or washi tape is also recommended if you like.

Cut along the spiral line with scissors, attach a string, and hang it up to finish.

Seeing the mobile you made yourself displayed near a wall or window can give older adults a sense of accomplishment, too.

Since it can be made while seated, it’s a project you can enjoy while chatting with others.

A gently swaying hanging decoration with a lovely vibe.

How about making a showy hanging piece using a paper plate? The design features three hanging circles, but you only need one paper plate.

Cut the single paper plate into two donut-shaped rings and one solid circle.

If you attach transparent origami to the donut shapes, the see-through effect creates a dreamy look.

Of course, you can expand your creativity by drawing illustrations or attaching paper with lettering.

Use flower-shaped punch-out parts sold at 100-yen shops and stick them onto the paper plate.

Attach strings to the three pieces, hang them up, and you’re done.

If you make the hanging decoration with seasonal themes, it can help older adults feel the changing seasons, too.
