Paper roll cake

Paper roll cakes are a perfect craft for the winter season and an activity that seniors can enjoy.
This project, which mimics a rolled cake, is easy to make using cardboard and origami paper.
Simply roll up paper to resemble cream and fruit, wrap it, and attach it to the cardboard to create a festive-looking paper roll cake.
It makes a lovely Christmas decoration, and by experimenting with different ideas and decorations, creativity can truly shine.
Enjoy creating original pieces together while working side by side with seniors.
Christmas cake made of origami

This is an origami Christmas cake that can be used in many ways—like a gift box, candy holder, or trinket case! Since this craft involves making many cake parts from origami, it’s great for dividing the work among a group.
If you’re looking for winter craft activity ideas, definitely give this a try.
For the cake base, you combine parts to create an octagonal box.
Then you top it with origami Santas, trees, strawberries, and more.
You can display it as is, or hide a present inside the box for a fun surprise.
Tatsu Kazari

Let’s make a stylish and cute dragon decoration by simply cutting colored construction paper in a spiral! It’s an easy craft that seniors can enjoy, so feel free to use it for day-service craft activities.
To make it, draw a spiral on a square piece of colored construction paper and cut along the lines—that’s it! You can customize the dragon’s head however you like.
Also, adding a piece of decorative food divider (baran) to the dragon’s body gives it a nice touch.
Attach a string to turn it into a hanging ornament, and decorate your room to enjoy the seasonal atmosphere.

snow globe

Snow globes are popular souvenirs at tourist spots—and you can easily make one at home! Using an empty jar and tools you already have, it’s a perfect activity for cozy at-home time as winter events approach.
Cut a sponge to fit the jar lid and secure picks or small motifs onto it.
Adding Christmas or New Year’s-themed motifs is a great idea! Pour purified water into the jar along with glitter or other sparkly materials that swirl in water, give it a mix, then close the lid with the motifs attached—and you’re done.
These dreamy snow globes make delightful gifts, too.
snow rabbit
Snow bunnies adorned with nandin (heavenly bamboo) berries and leaves are an irresistibly charming winter tradition.
They’re a perfect motif for winter crafts when we tend to stay indoors, so why not give them a try? All you do is roll up newspaper or origami paper, making them easy for seniors and children to create—that’s part of the appeal! They’re also great fun to make with your grandkids.
The step where you make the rabbit’s eyes with red origami is a bit intricate and may be slightly challenging.
The wrinkles in the rolled paper add character and make for a lovely finish, so please display them in your room and let them help you get through the cold!
New Year’s decoration of Mount Fuji

Imagine a hanging scroll and let’s make a New Year’s decoration featuring Mt.
Fuji.
First, cover the entire surface of the cardboard base with reversible crepe paper, then attach washi-pattern origami to the top and bottom.
Cut a Mt.
Fuji shape from the reversible crepe paper, create the snowcap with white drawing paper, and layer and glue it on.
Cut a circle from gold origami and glue it onto the base, then attach the Mt.
Fuji on top.
Finally, decorate with rabbit, flower, and ribbon parts, attach a hanging string, and you’re done.
Christmas garland

A simple and charming Christmas garland featuring a row of trees made from plastic ribbon (suzuran tape).
The trees are easy to make: wrap the suzuran tape around a backing sheet, cut open one side, and shape it so it flares downward—then it’s done.
Tie the uncut side firmly to keep the shape from loosening, attach a star motif, and use it to hide the knot.
While green is the classic color for trees, we recommend also incorporating red and other colors to decorate them in a festive, eye-catching way.
