La La Lost Youniki

If you went through a breakup this summer, I recommend “La La Lost You.” It’s a song by Indonesian singer-songwriter NIKI.
In the track, she looks back on memories with someone who lives in a faraway town and expresses how much she misses them.
I think it’s a song you can relate to in many situations, not just heartbreak.
Another noteworthy point is how it captures the uniquely wistful scenes of late summer.
Try to imagine that atmosphere as you listen.
SummertimeNew Kids On The Block

As a romantic song to listen to at the end of summer, I’d like to introduce “Summertime.” It’s a track released after the reunion of New Kids on the Block, the boy band that took the 1980s by storm.
The song looks back, from a male perspective, on the memories of a wonderful summer romance.
While it does touch on farewells and the end of summer, that’s not where it stops.
It goes on to depict the seasons turning and summer returning, with the narrator longing for her each time it comes around.
Summer’s GonePlacebo

Beautifully capturing the bittersweet feeling at summer’s end, this song has long been cherished as one of Placebo’s signature works.
Featured on the album “Without You I’m Nothing,” released in October 1998, it is characterized by the band’s mature sound and profound lyrics.
Melancholic yet somehow hopeful, the track is perfect for those looking back on summer memories while taking a step into a new season.
Alongside Placebo’s distinctive musicality, it will stay close to your heart.
It’s also recommended for twilight drives or for listening alone on a quiet night.
Summer Turns To HighR.E.M.

R.E.M., known for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Their song “Summer Turns To High” is also recommended.
As the title suggests, it portrays the experience of enjoying summer at its peak.
That might make you imagine an up-tempo sound, but this track is crafted as a gentle, subdued ballad.
Because of that, while listening, you may picture not “the liveliness of summer,” but rather “the end of summer.” Give it a listen and let your thoughts wander.
One of Those Summer DaysRhye

Based in Los Angeles, Rhye drew attention from their debut as a mysterious musical duo, earning high praise in the R&B and pop scenes of the 2010s and beyond for their meticulously crafted, beautifully sensual sound and thoroughly conceptual artwork.
Originally a two-piece consisting of Canadian singer Mike Milosh and Danish producer Robin Hannibal, since 2017 the project has continued as a musical collective led by Milosh.
The track introduced here, “One of Those Summer Days,” appears on Rhye’s acclaimed 2013 debut album Woman.
Milosh’s remarkable, gender-defying vocals—evocative of Sade Adu—and the restrained, elegant arrangement are exquisite, beautifully coloring memories of late summer.
All Summer LongThe Beach Boys

The Beach Boys are known as a quintessential surf music band.
Since their debut in 1961, they’ve produced numerous surf music hits and gained worldwide popularity.
In Japan, they’re akin to a band like TUBE.
Their classic “All Summer Long,” a lead single from the 1964 album of the same name, is a track with upbeat lyrics that, while nostalgic about summer’s end, insist that summer isn’t over yet.
The Last Day of SummerThe Cure

Led by Robert Smith, the greatest cult hero Britain has produced, The Cure are a rare band that, since their formation in 1978, have remained defiantly nonconformist while achieving worldwide commercial success—not only in their homeland but in the United States and beyond.
Their musical style has shifted with the times and defies simple summary, yet once you fall under their spell, their uncanny allure never lets you go.
The song in question, featured on their masterful 2000 album Bloodflowers, is a gem: lyrical acoustic guitar backing, a melancholic melody, Robert’s voice drifting like a daydream, and a faint waft of decadence together conjure a one-of-a-kind sonic world.
As a fan, I must also highlight that the track was composed by Robert’s longtime ally and the band’s stalwart bassist, Simon Gallup!
