Its exhilarating melody and powerful chorus feel like a gentle push on your back.

Released in January 2018, this song was also chosen as the theme for a Kumamoto earthquake recovery support project.

A bird that cannot flyyuzu

Yuzu’s song “Tobenai Tori” is a track from my youth, and it’s one I still often feel like listening to.

It’s perfect for times when I feel wistful or down, or when I want to cheer myself up, so I always end up listening to it around this time of year.

The two voices and the guitar blend together beautifully, making it a song you can relax and sink into.

Effeminate; overly sentimental; being clingy/whiny (context-dependent)Gōruden Bonbā

Judging by the title and the lyrics, it’s definitely not a cheerful song, yet somehow it sounds like one.

Of course, the rock beat has a lot to do with that, but when you watch the music video, the choreography involves lots of hand movements, mostly actions that raise the hands upward.

That’s actually pretty tough.

I feel it’s a song you can’t sing and dance to unless you’re full of energy.

TOMORROWMayo Okamoto

TOMORROW Mayuo Okamoto

Mayo Okamoto’s debut single, released in 1995.

It was the theme song for the TV drama “Second Chance.” Written to encourage a friend from her hometown, this song has surely given energy and courage to many people.

Numerous artists, including misono and Tomomi Kahara, have covered it.

You…Nishino Kana

Kana Nishino 'Kimi tte (short ver.)'
You...Nishino Kana

This is a gentle encouragement song, with Kana Nishino’s soft, warm vocals resonating in the heart.

Written as an insert song for the TV drama “Freeter, Ie o Kau.”, it was also featured in RecoChoku commercials.

As Nishino herself aimed to create a song that “stays close,” the lyrics—supporting and uplifting the other person—are especially striking.

It delivers a powerful message: “Even things you can’t overcome alone aren’t scary when there are two of us.” Released in November 2010, it was her 12th single and her first in three months.

It’s a perfect track for when you’re feeling down or when you want to encourage someone important to you.

DiamondsPRINCESS PRINCESS

The nickname “Princess Princess” was Japan’s first successful girls’ rock band and a pioneer.

This song was their seventh single, released in April 1989, and it reached No.

1 on the Oricon charts, becoming a million seller.

It’s a very lively song.

ChampionArisu

It seems to be the group’s biggest hit and the only single by Alice to reach number one on the Oricon chart.

I was around elementary school age at the time, and I remember singing it loudly with my friends over and over.

If you listen closely, it’s actually about a seasoned champion who ends up losing, but we sang it cheerfully just because the word “champion” sounded uplifting.
