And what kind of oni face should we make? Conversations with those around you will liven up, letting everyone enjoy a delightful time.

Assembling the parts stimulates the brain, and each expression and design shines with individuality.

While sharing memories of Setsubun, let’s take on the challenge of creating wall displays that enhance the festive atmosphere of the season!

[For Seniors] Ideas for decorating February walls with oni (ogres). Let their individuality shine with a variety of facial expressions (1–10)

Setsubun! Oni head

[Craft Idea] Setsubun! Ogre’s Head (February wall decoration) (elderly recreation, day service, occupational therapy, childcare, tissue paper, ogre pants, holly and sardine talisman, plum blossoms, DIY) (poster-size)
Setsubun! Oni head

When you think of Setsubun ogres, many of you probably picture their fluffy, curly hairstyles, right? You can recreate that soft ogre head using tissue paper! Stack seven sheets of tissue paper and accordion-fold them in strips about 1 cm wide.

Fold the bundle in half and staple the center, then round off the corners with scissors.

Carefully fan out each sheet one by one and shape it into a rounded form.

Attach a horn part made into a cone, and the ogre’s head is complete.

It’s cute on its own, and if you make a separate ogre face to combine with it, you’ll have a lovely piece.

Let’s all work together to roll up tissue paper and make an ogre wall decoration! The method is super simple: just roll and stick.

Prepare lots of rolled tissue paper pieces, draw the ogre’s face, and stick the pieces onto a backing sheet with double-sided tape.

The colors differ by part—eyes, horns, hair, cheeks—so adjust how many pieces you roll to match each area.

Adding words like “Oni wa soto, fuku wa uchi” will make it feel even more like a Setsubun decoration.

In the cold of winter, let’s warm our hearts with shared laughter as we create together!

🐶 @buchiko_hoiku ◂◂◂◂ Check out my other posts, too 🌼 Thank you so much for all the likes 🩷 This time! A Setsubun craft for toddlers 👹 Isn’t this tiger-pattern wreath so cute? 🫶🏻 I keep making wreath crafts 😂 I guess I really like making wreaths 🤭 lol The wreath doesn’t have to be yellow—make it unique with your favorite colors like pink or blue 🙆🏻‍♀️ Cutting out the oni and the god of fortune uses scissors, so it’s great practice for continuous cutting ✌🏻 At the end, think about the “oni” inside yourself that you want to chase away and write it on a strip of paper. It helps kids understand the meaning of Setsubun and join in without being scared of the oni ✊🏻 And!! This craft is also available as a kit for purchase 🌟 Craft kits saved me when I was actively teaching, so now I want to help teachers who are struggling! I make each one with that in mind ✂️ Links to Mercari and BASE are in my profile! I sell other crafts too, so I’d be happy if you take a look 👀 A follow would make me even happier 🥴💕 lol Please try making it yourself 🌈 I’d love to hear your “I made it!” reports—they really motivate me 🥹❤️‍🔥 Thank you for reading to the end 🐶 I share ideas you can easily copy from introduction to crafting ♬︎ Likes ♥, saves 𖤘, and follows 𖤐 would make me cry with joy 😂 lol Comments are also very welcome 🤍🤍Nursery teacher / Childcare workerKindergarten TeacherWinter Craft#Wall CreationToddler CraftsPlay that expands from picture booksSetsubun craft

When you think of what oni (Japanese ogres) wear, it’s got to be tiger-striped pants! It’s a cute choice for such fearsome creatures, isn’t it? Tiger stripes that evoke oni are perfect to include in February wall decorations.

Cut out the center of a paper plate to make a ring and paint it yellow.

Once it’s dry, tear black construction paper by hand and paste it onto the plate to create a tiger-stripe pattern.

Trim any excess, then attach Setsubun motifs like oni or Otafuku made from origami or construction paper, and your tiger-striped wreath is complete.

You can stick it on the wall or hang it from above—there are lots of fun ways to display it.

Decorative wall art and craft ogres tend to have a cute design.

However, ogres are originally terrifying beings that can make children cry.

If you want to pursue realism, why not create a wall decoration of an ogre showing a menacing face amid blazing flames? Make a background with red, orange, and yellow construction paper, then attach a red ogre cut from construction paper or origami on top to complete a powerful ogre decoration! Using sparkly origami or tape will add depth and make it look even more realistic.

Oni Underpants Garland

Speaking of oni pants, the classic is yellow with black tiger stripes! But in this idea, we break out of that set mold and make oni pants in a variety of patterns.

Snow bunnies, plum blossoms, masu cups labeled with “good fortune,” and even oni faces…

We have to tip our hats to these designs that feel fresh yet familiar.

They’re all colorful and super cute, so why not use them as inspiration to make an oni garland? Basically, you just cut out parts from construction paper and paste them on, but there are quite a few variations—like two different pant shapes—so be careful as you work.

Oni Origami Calendar

Oni Origami Calendar

Let’s fold motifs related to February with origami and make a February calendar! Speaking of February, there’s Setsubun.

You can’t leave out ogres, their striped pants, and a club.

It’s also the coldest time of year, but the plum blossoms are just beginning to bloom.

While looking forward to the arrival of warm spring, it’s fun to fold plum blossoms in both large and small sizes.

Once you’re done folding, paste them onto a backing sheet, write in the dates, and you’re finished.

We see calendars every day, but when it’s a handmade calendar filled with warmth, you can’t help but stop and take a long look at it.

Origami Setsubun hanging decoration

Make Setsubun hanging decorations with origami! Introducing how to fold oni (demons) and Otafuku masks! Why not try making them for a February event? [Tsukuru-mon]
Origami Setsubun hanging decoration

Why not make a hanging decoration using origami creations? We’ll introduce five types: an ogre (oni), an iron club (kanabō), Otafuku (a smiling woman mask), a kusudama (decorative paper ball), and a tassel.

You’ll make two versions of the oni with different horns.

There aren’t any complicated folds, so as long as you crease carefully and firmly, even beginners can make them.

However, the kusudama takes a bit more time since it’s assembled from several parts.

If you divide up the work, you can enjoy the process together while completing a wall decoration, so please try making it cooperatively with everyone.
