Optical illusion art

As part of the decorations, how about incorporating some trick art? Trick art refers to artworks that use optical illusions.

For example, you can make a flat painting appear to pop out, or make a flat area look indented—there are many possible expressions.

If you prepare plenty of such trick art, people are sure to enjoy it.

Another appeal of trick art is that it can serve as a photo spot.

Start by setting a theme to decide what kind of pieces to create!

At school festivals, you often make signs to show where events and activities are held.

This time, I’d like to share an idea for a brightly colored, eye-catching tissue-paper board that’s great for promotion.

All you need are a pencil, a piece of Styrofoam, and tissue paper in your favorite colors.

Cut the Styrofoam into the shapes of the pattern or letters you want, then decorate it by wrapping tissue paper around it with glue.

Twisting the tissue paper around a pencil takes time, but you’ll be amazed by the quality of the finished result.

It’s perfect for creating a sign with real impact.

How about using a paper-cup light to create a lovely atmosphere for your school or cultural festival? With a bit of creativity, you can assemble a flower light that looks like a rose.

Cut two paper cups in half to make four pieces in total.

On each piece, trim one of the pointed corners and use a stick to curve the edges.

Layer the four pieces while imagining rose petals.

Make several roses the same way, and when you put them together, they become a lampshade.

The white color of the paper cups also works nicely, making this a great decoration idea even when you’re short on time.

Paper circle garland

This garland uses softly textured paper cut into circles, creating the look of a wall covered in blooming flowers.

Fold the paper and cut it into circular shapes, then make circles of the same size in different colors.

Once you’ve made the circles, arrange them while adjusting the quantity to create a gradient effect when hung on the wall, and thread a string through the center using a needle.

After threading, fan the paper out to a consistent width, then secure the center with glue so the shape holds—done! For extra dimension, you can also gently curve each circle bit by bit.

mirror ball

Huh, is this a mirror ball!? Purchase—yay!
mirror ball

It doesn’t get better than a spinning mirror ball! Rainbow-colored lights look even more striking and beautiful in dark spaces.

Making one by hand is tricky, but these days you can find good-quality ones online at reasonable prices.

Some are super simple—you just screw them into an existing light socket—so definitely check them out.

They’re great for events with a stage, too.

It’s also fun to turn down the lights and enjoy music in a club-like vibe.

If you want to amp up the energy, a mirror ball is a sure bet!

How about some cotton balls with a cute, round, woven look? Wrap your favorite color thread around an inflated balloon, then brush glue all over it.

Once the glue dries, pop the balloon inside and you’re done! It’s easy to adjust the size, so you can make them to fit the space where you want to display them.

You can also take advantage of the hollow interior by inserting an LED light to turn it into simple indirect lighting.

It’s a striking decoration that’s perfect for displays where you want to dim the classroom a bit!

paper balloon

If you want something festive but don’t have the budget or time to make anything elaborate, paper balloons are a great recommendation.

You can find them at 100-yen shops.

They have a traditional Japanese feel, so they’re perfect as decorations when your class is doing something with that vibe.

Online and at stylish variety stores, you can sometimes find designs other than the classic rainbow pattern.

Using those can make things look even more luxurious.

You could also use them as decorations and then give them as gifts to the children who come—how about that?
