Practice pieces for beginner flutists. Recommended practice pieces.
When you think of the flute, you think of a shiny, beautiful woodwind instrument with a gentle tone—one that plays a major role in orchestras, concert bands, and ensembles.
If you’re reading this, you might be a new student who joined the school band and was assigned the flute, or an adult considering the flute as a new hobby.
However, when you actually try to play, you’ll likely find it’s harder than you imagined.
This time, for those just starting to handle the instrument, I’ll introduce some easy songs you can play on the flute and recommended practice pieces.
These are all standard tunes that cover the basics, so please give them a try!

I want to play the flute! – For first-time flute players: how to hold it and basic fingerings – Shimamura Music Music SalonMinami-Gyōtoku
This video shows both the instructor and the person actually being taught.
It also shows the fingering chart written on paper, so I think it’s a video suitable for beginners who don’t even know how to hold the instrument.
If you can go at the same pace as the learner in the video, you should be able to follow along while watching.
Hamaya Music Instruments Flute Lesson IntroductionMatsushita Yūko
This video is presented as a lesson introduction, but the instructor actually assembles the instrument and performs according to the lesson content, making it easy for beginners to understand.
You can also hear the teacher’s beautiful tone, which is very educational.

This video is helpful when using or buying cloths.
It introduces the cloths sold in stores, so it’s very detailed.
I think it will be useful to watch when you’re unsure which cloth to buy.
To the flute: Love’s Greeting, Salut d’amour

It’s a very easy-to-understand piece.
That said, you can also practice whether you can play sharp notes and the like without mistakes when they appear occasionally.
Since it’s just over two minutes long, it’s perfect as a practice piece, and I think it’s fine to incorporate just the first phrase into your practice as well.
Lingering Snowiruka

Dolphin’s song “Nagori Yuki” is a piece you often hear during graduation season.
The flute carries the main melody throughout, so it’s also recommended as a solo practice piece.
Some of you may even have memories of performing it at a graduation ceremony with your school band.
