Included on the 1996 album “Big Sister Stripped Running.” A three-piece girls’ rock band formed in 1989, they are more highly regarded overseas than in Japan.
With an uptempo, unfolding rhythm and a foundation of noisy, hard guitars, the husky-voiced vocals ride catchy pop melodies to create an addictive track.

Included on the 1989 album “√5.” A five-member rock band formed in 1982.
This song stands out for its originality, featuring a lively, up-tempo rhythm and a lyrical, melancholic melody line, over which Kyoko and KONTA deliver dynamic interplay as twin vocalists.
Limit LoversSHOW-YA

Included on the 1989 album “Outerlimits.” Used as the theme song for a Showa Shell Sekiyu commercial.
A five-piece all-girl rock band formed in 1981.
Built on an up-tempo, aggressively unfolding rhythm and a hard-edged guitar sound with a conscious nod to metal, the melody blasts straight into your eardrums.

SANKAKKEIEIRIANSU

This is a live video of the song “SANKAKKEI” by Aliens, a seven-member coed band formed in 2015.
Their hallmark is a horn section featuring trumpet, trombone, and saxophone, which adds sparkle to their intense, rock-leaning sound.
The band is also notable for YUMI’s distinctly feminine vocals and lyrics marked by quirky word choices.
Brown MushroomsShonen Naifu

Included on the 1993 album “Rock Animals.” A three-piece rock band from Osaka Prefecture formed in 1981.
The uptempo, briskly unfolding drums and the hard, noisy guitar sound intertwine nicely with melodies that contain a contrasting pop sensibility, resulting in a well-crafted finish.
