We’re putting together playlists of the must-hear lineup from FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL—Japan’s flagship summer music festival since 1997!

FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL ’16 Performing Artists (1–10)

Cherry on the beakEGO-WRAPPIN’

EGO-WRAPPIN’ has been active since 1996.

Their distinctive music, which incorporates elements of jazz and kayōkyoku (Japanese popular song), is captivating.

This track is one of their signature songs, and it was used as the theme song for the TV drama “Private Detective Mike Hama” at the time.

The vocalist, Nakanõ, is from Osaka, and their live-show banter is a joy—don’t miss it.

MIRROR BALLSdCprG

dCprG is a big band led by jazz musician Naruyoshi Kikuchi.

It’s a funk band that incorporates funk and Afro polyrhythms, working to present a new kind of dance music to club culture.

Courtney Barnett, who debuted last year and was nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy, hails from Australia.

Contrary to her calm appearance, her songs have a rock sound and she’s a very captivating and cool artist.

I’m personally very fond of the way she holds her guitar as a lefty.

Keep On TryingDJ Harvey

DJ Harvey, who hails from the UK, is said to have brought American-born disco and house music to Britain back in the day.

With performances from this progenitor of dance music, even Fuji Rock might transform into a club where everyone can’t help but dance.

Love & Special Sauce is an alternative hip-hop band from the United States.

With their unique style—often called rag mop—that blends hip-hop with blues and jazz blues, they have become leaders in the surf music scene.

We’re excited to see his performance at Fuji Rock, where those laid-back, easygoing tracks truly shine.
