Basics of Wotagei: Get to Know the Gachi-Koi Call!
There’s a type of otagei that’s common across all idols called the “Gachi-koi Koujou” (hardcore love chant). This time, I’d like to explain it for people who are new to idol fandom.
What is a 'gachikoi kojō'?
First, please watch this live footage.
This long line that the fan is shoutingGachikoi cheersIt is.
Gachi-koi refers to being genuinely in love with an idol.refers to
I have something I want to say.
After all, ◯◯ is cute.
I love you so, so much—yep, I’m in love.
I finally found the princess.
The reason I was born
To encounter ◯◯.
Let's walk through life together.
I love you more than anyone in the world.
I love you
The name of your favorite goes in the 〇〇 part.
Indeed, the “gachi-koi call” is entirely about being truly in love.
Rather than from the perspective of a fan,my wifeThat’s the perspective, right?
This hardcore-love chant is long and takes quite a while to get through, so we basically shout it during the instrumental parts, such as before the last chorus or at the end of the song.
In workplaces where this has taken hold, large numbers of people, as in the earlier live video,Chorus with fanswill end up doing; will be decided/arranged to do; will become the case that (someone) does
If you can chant a gachikoi call, it’s like magic that lets even beginners instantly blend into the scene.
If you like idols and are thinking of going to a live show, learning even a little beforehand will make it more enjoyable.
However, it doesn’t mean you can insert this preamble just anytime...
This so-called “gachi-koi speech” includes lines like “princess” and “I love you more than anyone in the world,” which are a bit cringey, right?
Because they were idols with a no-dating rule, there were times in the past when passionate fan chants (gachi-koi calls) were prohibited at their events.
There are some idols whose fairytale-style introductions don’t fit their concept, so they aren’t included in any of their songs.
Even at events for groups like Nogizaka46, there are people who approve of including the ‘gachikoi kojo’ chant and those who don’t.
The main reason is that it’s noisy.
If someone next to you is shouting, you can’t hear what the idol is saying, right?
For those who are new to idol events, I recommend reading the room at first.
To be honest, among idol otaku, a full-on “gachi-koi” chant isIt makes good material. So it won’t hurt to remember it.
I can respond flexibly even if someone suddenly throws a set piece or formal spiel at me in a conversation.
Another version of a hardcore fan chant
This is the original call-and-response for Band Ja Naimon!’s “Chocolat Love,” known as the Chocolat Chant.
This is an original idea created by a fan to match the members and the song.
Perhaps it caught on because this call-and-response was created collectively by the fans when the venue wasn’t that big.
When the original takes hold and this spiel echoes through the venue, it gets absolutely crazy.emo; emotionally moving; evocative (slang)Right? / Isn’t that so?
However, making an original one is quite difficult.
If some time has passed since the song was made, it’s because there are other ways to enjoy it.
It’s extremely difficult to create something new when the ways to enjoy things are already well established.
In conclusion
Even at a venue you’re visiting for the first time, just knowing the gachikoi call-and-response can help you fit in, so start by learning it!
Because I actually knew this, it felt like we were meeting for the first time.Nogizaka46I was able to break the ice with the fans right away.
