Golden Bomber’s famous and popular songs

Let me introduce songs by Golden Bomber, a four-member band also known as Kinbaku, who are active in a brand-new style as a visual-kei air band.

At first glance they may seem goofy, but in fact they deliberately choose not to sign with a major label, insisting on working independently, and pursue their activities with strong conviction.

Their signature song is “Memeshikute,” which was the catalyst for their big break, but they have plenty of other catchy tracks that you’ll find yourself humming along to.

If you’ve never really listened to their music before, give this playlist a proper listen.

You might just end up becoming a fan.

English is so cool.Gōruden Bonbā

English is so cool.Gōruden Bonbā

It’s a song where a vocalist who’s bad at English just strings together English words and sings them to sound like real lyrics.

It’s been a staple at live shows and has been performed often for years.

If you listen with a Japanese translation, it’s terrible, but the tempo and rhythm are great, and above all it’s fun, so it’s a song loved by everyone.

She even looks like my late wife.Gōruden Bonbā

It’s a song about how the bride-to-be starts to look more and more like the ex-wife who passed away.

It shifts from a chant-like melody to a brighter one, making for a unique structure.

It’s also interesting that the actress playing the bride and the one playing the wife in the music video actually look alike.

MasashiGōruden Bonbā

This song is about love for “Masashi.” Or so it seems—partway through, all the members start introducing themselves, each insisting, “I’m Masashi.” It does wrap up with a proper punchline at the end, but that sense of not quite making sense is very Golden Bomber, and it’s part of why the song is popular.

I want to become beautifulGōruden Bonbā

It’s a relentlessly self-deprecating yet somehow poppy and laugh-inducing song.

I have no idea what the rap part in the middle is supposed to mean, but the rhythm is strangely good, so I can’t help enjoying it, frustrating as that is.

It’s in karaoke too, so I think it’d be fun to shout it out together with everyone.

Dance My GenerationGōruden Bonbā

It’s a song with a music video that evokes the Bubble era: members dressed in flashy, bubble-era outfits throw money around and hit on women.

The track fits the video and the dance perfectly.

Even though it gives off such a high-energy, go-getter vibe, there’s an endearing hint of awkward dorkiness that it just can’t shake.

Ice BoxGōruden Bonbā

This song is something that vocalist Shō Kiryūin fulfilled on his own after writing on his blog that he wanted to create a tune like one that would play in a refreshing ICE BOX commercial.

It seems it didn’t end up on a TV commercial, but a video of the members eating ICE BOX has been uploaded.

Golden Bomber’s Famous and Popular Songs (21–30)

While you were awayGōruden Bonbā

I often hear people say Golden Bomber only has upbeat songs, but this one is a ballad.

It feels packed with feelings like: I want to see you; I feel miserable about how I’ve changed while you’ve been gone; I wonder what you would think.
