Gifts to give teachers at graduation that convey your gratitude (11–20)
handkerchief

Even a classic gift like a handkerchief can be made by hand to express your gratitude! All you need are a tenugui or double gauze and a tag, which you can find at a 100-yen shop.
Sew the tag onto the edge of the tenugui’s right side, then fold it with right sides facing.
Sew around, leaving an opening for turning; trim the four corners and press the seam allowances open with an iron.
Turn it right side out and topstitch around the edges to finish your original handkerchief.
It’s surprisingly hard to find a handkerchief with a pattern you really love, isn’t it? If you find a tenugui with a design your teacher might like, be sure to give this a try!
Handmade mug

Just draw on ceramics and bake! With Rakuyaki markers, you can easily create your own original mug.
Draw a teacher’s portrait, your favorite character, or favorite words on a ceramic or glass mug.
Then simply bake it in a preheated oven at 200°C (392°F) for 25 minutes and let it cool for about an hour—done! Before baking, the marker can be wiped off easily, so it’s great that you can redraw as many times as you like.
Add a message of thanks, and it becomes a touching gift that brings a tear to the eye every time it’s used.
flower clock

For a teacher who loves flowers, a flower clock makes a great gift.
If you’re thinking, “I want to give a handmade present,” a DIY kit for creating a custom flower clock is perfect! You can arrange the flowers freely around the clock and choose from several color options to match the teacher’s taste.
Flowers are included in the kit, but you can also add your own extra touches.
Fresh flowers wilt quickly, but the vivid beauty of preserved flowers sealed in the clock lasts almost indefinitely.
It would also be lovely to display a motif or photo that symbolizes the teacher alongside the flowers.
candy bouquet

When it comes to bouquets you can deliciously eat, candy bouquets are the best! Use your favorite individually wrapped snacks and candies as “flowers” to create the bouquet.
We’ll use colored construction paper as the wrapping paper, so please prepare your favorite color.
Once you’ve shaped the construction paper into a bouquet, fill it with sweets, cover it with a clear bag, and tie a ribbon to finish.
If you want a handle, use lollipops or attach a straw.
Research the teacher’s favorite treats and give it a try!
portrait (caricature)

Bring laughter and tears to your teacher with a portrait! Hiring a professional is one option, but if the whole class works together to create it, it will touch your teacher’s heart even more.
Capture your teacher’s features and, with a touch of playful exaggeration and lots of care, present a portrait that might just bring them to tears.
It’s also a great idea to add messages from everyone in the class around the drawing.
It doesn’t have to be perfect! Put your gratitude into it, cooperate as a team, and create a one-of-a-kind piece in the world.
Handmade surprise box

Sparkle – Lila Ikuta
A surprise box that makes you excited to see what comes out is perfect for a gift! Since the boxes are arranged like matryoshka dolls, you get a little thrill each time you open a lid.
It’s very easy to make! Prepare boxes in different sizes, and for all but the innermost box, cut the corners so they can open out.
Stack them from the largest to the smallest, and on the sides, attach bags of candy or write messages like “Thank you.” For the final box, put in a gift that will be appreciated or a commemorative photo—come up with a moving surprise!

paperweight

A paperweight is an item used to keep papers from being blown away.
The weight used for Japanese calligraphy (bunchin) is also a type of paperweight.
In this idea, we’ll make a paperweight using resin.
Just pour resin into a mold of your preferred shape, let it cure, and then add color on top—so as long as you have the materials and curing equipment, anyone can give it a try.
It also looks beautiful if you embed beads or holographic pieces in the resin.
It’s a perfect gift for teachers who handle a lot of paperwork.
