That’s why I recommend handmade costumes! With just a bit of creativity and easily gathered materials, you can make a wonderfully original outfit.

jack-o’-lantern
A very cute pumpkin costume that looks great even when made freehand.
The hat, collar, dress, and shoe covers are all designed like a jack-o’-lantern.
The hat, collar, and shoe covers are all made from felt.
The dress is also made by sewing felt together, but you’ll need pieces that are quite large.
Using a T-shirt as a template is handy when making your pattern.
The overall shapes are very simple, but when everything is put together, you’ll have an adorable Halloween cosplay!
Cinderella
This is a Disney movie Cinderella costume made from colored plastic bags using white and light blue.
In addition to vinyl tape and double-sided tape, having silver tape will help you create an even prettier costume.
There is extra room at the waist and shoulders.
First fasten with double-sided tape, then use vinyl tape as needed.
Be careful, as some parts are taped from the outside and others from the inside.
Changing the color or pattern of the tape will give you variations.
Pair it with a light blue headband for an extra cute look!
Jesse
It turns out Jesse’s outfit from the movie Toy Story is surprisingly easy to make.
For the cowboy hat, just draw a very large circle to create the pattern.
Using double-sided tape or a hot glue gun, you can even make the shirt and pants without sewing.
Since Jesse is a doll, a more exaggerated design works better than traditional cowboy fashion.
Oversizing the buttons or drawing the vest pattern with a felt-tip pen gives it an animated look and sets the right vibe.
ninja
This is a ninja costume made using large plastic bags.
You can make both the top and bottom from bags of the same size.
For the top, if you’re unsure how to cut the neckline and shoulders, it’s helpful to use a tank top or T-shirt as a reference.
In that case, children’s clothing will be too small for the plastic bag, so using adult-sized clothing will give you a better fit.
The inseam for the bottom is the same idea.
Adding an origami shuriken around the chest area makes it even cuter!
Demon Slayer
From the hugely popular “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba,” here’s a haori with the same checkered pattern as the one worn by the protagonist, Tanjiro Kamado.
Without using a pattern, you can achieve an authentic haori shape just by sewing together rectangular pieces of fabric! The green-and-black checkered design, a traditional Japanese pattern, is perfect for this type of kimono-style garment.
The sewing is very simple and minimal, so you can make it with a sewing machine or by hand.
For a manga, the characters in “Demon Slayer” wear relatively ordinary clothing, which lowers the barrier for cosplay accessories.
Using different colored fabrics to make other characters’ haori would make it even more fun.
fairy
A very cute yet authentic fairy costume.
First, let’s make the blouse out of felt.
Using one with lace will give it an adorable design.
Attaching the collar might be a bit tricky, though.
For the skirt, we attach curtain fabric over the top to achieve a whimsical, fairy-like finish! And of course, you can’t forget the fairy wings.
For these, straighten out a wire hanger and bend it to create the frame.
Stretch a sink strainer net over the open areas, then draw any patterns you like, and you’re done.

Here’s a fun way to make a T-shirt that instantly turns you into a zombie.
You’ll need acrylic paint, brushes, fabric markers, paper cups, rubber gloves, and a T-shirt you want to remake.
First, prepare a mix of red acrylic paint with a little black, as well as plain red acrylic paint.
Load your brush with paint and flick it onto both the front and back of the T-shirt to create zombie-style blood splatter.
Since it’s acrylic paint, the color won’t fade even after washing—that’s the key point.
Put it on and have a blast at Halloween!
