Perfect for Halloween parties! Delicious homemade sweets (11–20)
Halloween pull-apart bread

This is a super stylish and cute pull-apart bread that expresses shades of orange, black, and blue using various herbs.
For orange, use safflower and hibiscus; for black, dandelion coffee; and for blue, butterfly pea.
You mix pancake mix with milk and eggs, so it can be made in much the same way as pancakes.
The key when making the black dough is to also mix in black sesame paste.
It’s amazing how vibrant the colors turn out without using any conventional food coloring! When drawing faces with a chocolate pen, be sure to have one in white chocolate as well.
Halloween icing cookies

Trendy iced cookies can be transformed into a Halloween version with just a few tweaks.
Using only egg yolks gives a calm beige color, so you can achieve an autumnal hue that suits Halloween without adding pumpkin to the dough itself.
Then, when making the icing, use pumpkin and black cocoa.
Adding a white outline to the cookies enhances the design.
Even if you make many cookies with the same cutter, the subtle variations in the icing strokes give each one a unique, handmade character.
Halloween donut(s)

By using a donut mold, you can easily make many kinds of donuts.
The key points are to grease the mold well before pouring in the batter and to tap out air bubbles before putting it in the oven.
Once the donuts are baked, create a base by dipping them in white chocolate or regular chocolate, or by drawing patterns with chocolate pens.
You can find chocolate pens in various colors even at 100-yen shops, so try a few different kinds.
Donuts are a simple, party-friendly dessert that turns out beautifully no matter who makes them.
Black cupcake

These are regular cupcakes topped with ghosts made from meringue.
I’m amazed at how vibrant the colors become when you mix meringue with food coloring! Since you can’t place the meringue ghosts directly onto the cupcakes, first spread buttercream on top of the cupcakes, then set the ghosts on the buttercream.
A dusting of gold powder gives them a nightscape-like palette and makes them absolutely beautiful.
By experimenting with the colors of the buttercream and the finishing powders, you can create even more colorful cupcakes.
Halloween zenzai (sweet red bean soup)

Even zenzai, the sweet red bean soup typically eaten at New Year’s, can quickly transform into a Halloween treat with a bit of creativity.
The ingredients are just shiratamako (glutinous rice flour), water, and canned sweetened azuki beans, and the steps are very simple.
Kneading the shiratama dough into ghost shapes and drawing faces with a chocolate pen feels like making clay crafts—so fun! It might also be interesting to make Jack-o’-lanterns (pumpkin ghosts) out of shiratama.
It’s just the season when we start craving warm foods, so zenzai might actually be a surprisingly perfect sweet for Halloween.
