Perfect for summer! Ice cream kendama

Perfect for summer! Here’s an idea for a kendama shaped like an ice cream.
You’ll need brown construction paper, twine, origami paper in your favorite colors, scissors, newspaper, tape, and pens in colors you like.
First, cut the twine to your preferred length.
Then tape it to the center of the brown construction paper where you’ve drawn a cone pattern.
Next, roll up the brown paper to make the ice cream cone.
Finally, crumple some newspaper with the end of the twine secured inside, then wrap it with your favorite color of origami paper to complete the ice cream! It could be fun to draw your favorite patterns on it, too.
Cup kendama made from a toy capsule
Here’s an idea for making a cup-and-ball toy using a toy capsule.
You’ll need a toy capsule, a mini jelly cup, tape, scissors, and a marble.
First, take the mini jelly cup and cut out the bottom with scissors.
Next, tape the cut mini jelly cup to the inside of the toy capsule.
Finally, put a marble inside the toy capsule, and it’s done! Shake the toy capsule and try to get the marble into the mini jelly cup as you play.
The simplicity of the steps is part of its charm.
Making a kendama with pine cones

You’ll need two large paper cups, tape, a pen, a ribbon, and a pinecone.
First, use the pen to draw your favorite designs on the two paper cups.
Coloring them in your favorite colors is great, too! Next, tape the bottoms of the two cups together.
Finally, attach the pinecone to one end of the ribbon, and tape the other end to the inside of one of the cups—and you’re done! It’s a charming idea because you can make a kendama using a pinecone you picked yourself.
A unique kendama made from an egg carton

Here’s a unique kendama idea you can make with an egg carton.
You’ll need an egg carton, scissors, an awl, origami paper, curling ribbon, and tape.
First, use the awl to make a hole in the edge of the egg carton and thread the curling ribbon through it.
Next, crumple origami paper into a ball and attach the curling ribbon to it.
Finally, write point values on cut pieces of origami paper and stick them onto the egg cups, and you’re done! Try playing with the kids and competing for the highest score.
Making a kendama with newspaper and flyers

Here’s an idea for making a kendama using newspaper and flyers.
You’ll need newspaper, flyers, and vinyl tape.
First, crumple up the flyers or newspaper into a ball.
The key is to secure it with vinyl tape.
Next, stack about three or four sheets of newspaper, fold them into a triangle, and shape it like an ice cream cone.
Finally, connect the ball to the body with kite string, and you’re done! You can also make it with construction paper, so give it a try.
