garland

How about koinobori arranged horizontally like a garland instead of vertically? Fold origami or construction paper, or cut out shapes to make koinobori.
It’s also great to decorate them by combining Japanese-patterned origami.
Once you’ve made several koinobori, thread them and connect them together—that’s it! Make a few sets and stick them on windows or walls to create a lively atmosphere.
These koinobori are perfect for making together with your child.
Shaka-shaka Koinobori

Let’s make and play! Here’s an idea for a rattling koinobori (carp streamer).
It’s perfect for those who want to create a small koinobori to display on a shelf or by the entrance.
Try making it together with kids! You’ll need a clear bag, beads, pom-poms, a straw, small bells, washi tape, construction paper, round stickers, and tape.
Just put your favorite decorative materials inside the clear bag, and it’s done! It’s a handmade project where the fun is in the customizing.
Cut-and-paste felt carp streamers

Here’s a craft idea for making carp streamers (koinobori) using just cut-and-paste felt.
It’s easy to make and looks very cute! For the koinobori, cut a piece of felt into a long, narrow shape, glue on pom-poms to represent the scales, add an eye, then wrap it around a pole to finish.
For the pinwheel at the top of the stick, cut a square out of felt, make four slits from the corners toward the center, and fold every other corner inward to form the shape.
For the streamers, cut felt into long strips and glue them together with a slight overlap.
Since they’re mini-sized, you can display them anywhere!

Bleeding-paint koi-nobori
@atsumichan774 Let's make a Koinobori (carp streamer)! We made carp streamers using a coffee filter bleeding art technique—no paints needed♪ All materials are from the 100-yen shop! Color a coffee filter with water-based pens any way you like… then just spray it generously with water! Just using a spray bottle is surprisingly fun for kids on its own, haha. It's also nice to watch and enjoy how the colors bleed! ● Materials: - White coffee filters - Water-based pens - Spray bottle - Double-sided tape - Straws (thicker ones recommended) - Round stickers ● How to make: 1) Color the coffee filter with your favorite colors. Tip: If you draw detailed pictures, they’ll bleed. It’s fine to simply color and fill areas! 2) Spray with water. 3) Shape it into a carp streamer. You can cut with scissors if you like. Double-sided tape works great for attaching parts. Use round stickers to make and attach the eyes. 4) Attach it to a straw, and you’re done! Use double-sided tape here, too! Try all kinds of crafts! Great for play at home and for daycare or kindergarten projects! Let’s make a one-of-a-kind, special koinobori! Here’s an idea for a tie-dye style koinobori using color bleeding.
It’s perfect for those who want something more original than a store-bought koinobori.
You’ll need coffee filters, straws, water-based color markers, tape, scissors, and a spray bottle.
First, color the coffee filter with the water-based markers, then spray it with water and watch the colors bleed and blend.
The gently spreading colors are soothing to watch!
stained-glass-style koi nobori (carp streamer)
@maa_asobi Introducing a stained glass-style Koinobori 😊 It looks beautiful when you stick it on a window 🥰#AtHomePlayworkSimple craftEducational
♬ Disney Electrical Parade-like songs – Jun Takahashi
Let’s make it with three materials! Here’s an idea for a koi nobori (carp streamer) that looks like stained glass.
It’s perfect for anyone who wants to create a koi nobori to display by the window.
You’ll need black construction paper, colored cellophane, and clear tape.
First, use a pencil to sketch a koi nobori on the black construction paper, then cut it out, leaving a border.
After covering the whole piece with clear tape, stick on cut pieces of colored cellophane—and you’re done! When the light shines through, the shadows are tinted with color, making it beautiful.
Koinobori Tapestry

Recommended for those who love a natural vibe! Here are some ideas for a koi-nobori tapestry.
A tapestry is a decorative wall hanging primarily made of fabric.
It features woven paintings, patterns, or landscapes and is used as interior decor.
Another great point is that you can display it repeatedly for events! In recent years, more DIY materials have become available at 100-yen shops, so feel free to choose supplies that match your preferred style.
Made with paper cores

Let’s make a carp streamer (koinobori) using a paper tube.
Cut colored paper to the width of the tube and attach it around the tube with double-sided tape.
Gently flatten it from the top and make slits where the tail fin will be.
Stick on a round sticker for the eye.
Make several more “scales” by layering round stickers of different sizes, then cutting them in half.
Attach the scales, punch holes at the top and bottom of the head side, thread a chopstick to serve as the pole, and pin on a pinwheel to finish.
If you leave a little play in the pin, the pinwheel will spin properly!
