Footprint Koinobori

“Footprint art” lets you record the growth of babies and young children—this time, let’s make a carp streamer (koinobori) motif! If you have siblings, try taking their footprints side by side so you can enjoy the difference in size as a keepsake of their growth.
Paint the bottoms of their feet with poster paint and press them onto drawing paper to make footprints.
Use correction pen to draw the whites of the eyes and the gills; once dry, use a permanent marker to add the pupils and eyelashes.
Cut masking tape into triangles to mimic scales and stick them on, and make a rotating arrow ornament (yaguruma) with masking tape as well and attach it.
Add decorations like streamers to finish.
Footprint art is a great way to be amazed by how much they’ve grown when you look back later—perfect for Children’s Day.

The climbing koinobori that moves is a surefire idea your child will love.
Fold a long sheet of construction paper in half lengthwise and widthwise.
With it folded lengthwise, fold two corners inward toward the center.
Open the folded corners and cut off the top part of the triangle.
Attach the cut-off triangular piece to the center of the long sheet of construction paper.
That completes the moving mechanism.
Make a small koinobori with a smaller piece of paper and attach it to the triangular piece—like magic, it becomes a moving koinobori.
Enjoy making and playing with this koinobori that offers time to think about why it moves up and down, as well as fun fine finger movements.
Swirly Thread Koinobori
https://www.tiktok.com/@pippi_seisaku/video/7493098050622065928This is a fun carp streamer craft where you wrap embroidery thread round and round.
Lightly squash one end of a toilet paper roll and cut it into a tail fin shape, then attach origami paper with double-sided tape.
Make slits in any excess paper and fold it inward.
Apply double-sided tape to the body and wrap embroidery thread around and around.
Combining different colors makes it colorful and cute.
Decorate with round stickers for the eyes and scales, punch a hole and insert a straw, then finish by attaching an origami samurai helmet to complete it.
Ring-decorated carp streamers

Stretchable carp streamer
@rii_asobi Looks hard but it’s surprisingly easy!? Make this and enjoy Children’s Day 🐟 ✼✼ Stretchy! Koinobori (carp streamer) ✼✼ ▼ Materials used • Origami paper • Construction paper • Glue ▼ Tips for making • When combining the parts and tucking the triangle inside, leave some slack! If it’s too tight, it won’t stretch and shrink well ✨️ ⚠️ Notes ⚠️ • If you pull too hard, the parts can come off 🫠 At first we didn’t know how much force to use and they came apart, but we figured it out, and my son had fun stretching and shrinking it 😆 ———————————————— Not bored at home, are you? • Simple yet totally absorbing 🎈 • Great value using 100-yen items and things you already have at home ◎ Let’s increase smiles for parents and kids with play ideas from a nursery-teacher mom 🌼 Moms who want to enjoy at-home childcare, follow @rii_asobi and stay tuned 🫶#AtHomePlay#Indoor PlayAt-home childcare1 year old#BoyMom#HandmadeToysOrigami#KoinoboriChildren's Day#Children’s Day craft

This addictive carp streamer that wiggles and stretches with a boing is a perfect craft for Children’s Day.
It looks tricky but is actually very easy, so give it a try! Cut origami paper into quarter-size pieces and make lots of parts.
Fold once in half horizontally, then once into a triangle, unfold, fold two non-adjacent corners toward the center, and fold in half again.
For the first part, fold the right side on both front and back; for the second part, fold the left side on both front and back.
Combine the first and second parts alternately to assemble the carp streamer.
A koinobori whose scales change color

When you stroke it with your palm, the color changes—it’s so fun! Here’s an idea for a koi nobori with scales that change color.
In recent years, you often see children’s clothing designed with sequins that change the illustration’s color when you stroke them with your hand, right? This time, let’s make a color-changing koi nobori using round stickers! You’ll need construction paper, glue, scissors, pastel-colored round stickers, and vivid-colored round stickers.
It’s a unique and delightful idea, isn’t it?
Hanging ornaments

How about making carp streamers that sway gently as a hanging ornament? You can connect origami carp streamers with thread, or connect felt ones with thread—choose the materials to suit your preference.
If you use felt, we recommend selecting a firmer fabric.
By attaching each piece with a hot glue gun, you can make it without any sewing at all.
Since it’s a hanging decoration, having several carp streamers rather than just one will make it more festive.
