A spiral slide carved out by digging
This is an idea for a spiral slide that swirls around a pool.
In the video, they dig into the ground and use cement to build the pool and slide, but I think it’s also possible to assemble a wooden structure on top to match an above-ground pool.
Spiral slides are a staple at kids’ facilities, and children love the thrill of not being able to see what’s ahead.
It does involve more steps and is more challenging than building a straight slide, but if you’re good at DIY, I’d love for you to give it a try!
Jumping slide
How about curving up the end of the slide so you can launch off it? You can enjoy a thrilling experience just like a water slide! If you’re building a slide for a large school or facility pool like in the video, it would be great to make a big slide while also prioritizing safety.
Even if you’re making a smaller slide to fit a home pool, you can probably create a slide you can jump from by adjusting the slide’s length and angle.
Definitely give it a try and keep refining your design as you take on the challenge of building a slide.
A slide that uses an incline
This is a slide that makes use of the terrain where the pool is installed.
In other words, the idea is to place a pool at the bottom of a slope and turn that slope into a slide.
It saves the effort of building a tall frame, and from a safety standpoint, using an existing slope is more reassuring.
To build it, create a small frame on the slope, lay boards over it, and then spread a blue tarp on top.
When sliding, let water run down the slide so it’s slick and fun.
If you’re thinking about creating a waterslide at an outdoor facility like a campsite or park, please use this as a reference.
A slide you can climb from the opposite side
The idea is to add a climbable slope next to the slide.
Building stairs seems like it would be a hassle, so this could be helpful when making stairs is difficult.
Also, being able to climb directly onto the slide from the pool would probably be a fun feature for the kids.
When building it, make the frame slightly wider than the slide and lay boards over it to create the slope.
For safety, you can lay down a mat like artificial turf on the slope to prevent slipping and add handrails as well.
Mini-sized slide
How about building a sturdy slide using lumber you can get at a home improvement store? First, sketch a rough plan tailored to the size and shape of your pool.
Many home centers offer a paid cutting service for lumber you purchase, so it’s smooth sailing if you decide in advance which pieces need to be cut to what lengths and jot them down.
Once the lumber is cut, all that’s left is painting and assembly.
The slide shown in the video isn’t specifically for pools, but if you finish it with waterproof paint, it should work well for pool use.
It might be a bit challenging for DIY beginners, but give it a try!
