Magic with hats: Recommended tricks for parties and performances (11–20)
Color Changing Top Hat

This is a magic trick performed with a special kit.
When you cover the hat with a silk cloth, it keeps changing into different colors one after another.
As the cloth and the hat change colors, it really brightens up the scene.
It’s an easy-to-understand trick, and the rapid, continuous changes make it especially entertaining.
Trump card magic

A playing-card guessing magic trick using a hat.
You shuffle the deck and put the cards into the hat, then give the bottom of the hat a quick pop… and the spectator’s chosen card flies out! It’s a very impactful trick.
The secret is to stretch a wire wrapped with vinyl tape across the inside of the hat to separate the chosen card from the rest.
However, the timing is tricky, so you’ll likely need to practice many times.
chop hat

If you want to master hat magic right away, I recommend the Chop Hat.
A Chop Hat is a type of magic item: it comes as a set with a small hat, a cup, and a ball.
Using these items lets you perform tricks like making the ball vanish or producing it from inside the hat.
There are sets that include an instructional DVD, as well as sets with hats in different colors, so choose the one you prefer.
The price is around 13,000 yen.
Bill Fan to Bill Top Hat

When you fan out a wad of cash, it doubles into two.
Then, when you toss one of the bundles into the air, it instantly transforms into a hat.
The second bundle is probably a foldable hat, I’d say.
It’s a magic trick kids would love.
Metamorphosis Paper: Silk Hat

This is a magic trick using thin paper.
You stack two sheets of paper and tear them, then crumple them in your palm, and in no time it turns into a paper hat.
It’s a trick performed with a dedicated magic prop.
Since the paper transforms into a three-dimensional object, the audience will surely be amazed.
top hat–type production tube

This is a magic trick where a paper tube shaped like a hat is prepared, and various items are pulled out of it one after another.
Colorful cloths, a big rubber toy that looks like a caterpillar, and even a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
Things that couldn’t possibly fit inside a hat keep appearing in succession.
It’s a very enjoyable trick to watch.

Color-Changing Gloves

This is a magic trick where you use an oversized top hat as a blindfold and rapidly change the color of your gloves by alternately extending and withdrawing your hands.
The striking top hat grabs the audience’s attention.
Just watching the gloves spin through different colors is great fun.
Be sure to master this skill and create a delightful show.
