Aim for a high score! A collection of easy-to-sing karaoke songs recommended for high school students

When karaoke has a scoring feature, you can’t help wanting to go for a high score, right?

I’m sure many of you enjoy competing for high scores with your friends.

This time, for high school students who love karaoke, I’ve selected some songs that seem relatively easy to sing and good for aiming at high scores.

The key to getting a high score at karaoke is, above all else, to memorize the melody and rhythm (note values) accurately!

If you want to aim for a high score, listen closely to the guide melody, memorize it, and then try singing.

If you’re thinking, “There’s no way I can memorize all that,” one trick might be to turn up the guide melody volume so it’s easier to hear while you sing.

Some of the individual song introduction articles also include advice specifically for getting high scores, so be sure to use this article as a reference and get a leg up on your friends!

Cosmic TreatPerfume

Perfume’s new song “Cosmic Treat.” Perfume has always been known for their distinctive techno sound, but lately they’ve started challenging themselves with new styles.

This track is one such work, incorporating the synthwave genre that boomed in the 1980s.

The genre emphasizes overall groove and smoothness more than vocal lines, and this song follows suit, keeping the vocals understated.

In particular, the scarcity of high notes might make it perfect for aiming for a high score, don’t you think?

FOREVERchanmina

Chanmina, a female rapper who enjoys overwhelming support from women in their teens to thirties.

She has many iconic songs, but quite a few are difficult, so many people may hesitate to add them to their repertoire.

That’s why I recommend this track, “FOREVER.” The hip-hop elements are toned down, and it has an overall pop feel.

The vocal lines are chill, without complex ups and downs in pitch throughout.

It’s a very easy song to sing, so be sure to check it out.

Yorushika’s new song “Taiyo” (“Sun”).

Yorushika always releases languid, emo-tinged tracks, and that musical style is alive and well here, too.

Among their works, this one in particular is arranged with a notably calm atmosphere.

The low register is a bit heavy, so some female singers might need to raise the key, but overall the vocal line is simple, making it perfect for aiming for a high score.

It also goes over great at karaoke, so definitely consider adding it to your repertoire.

Among the Sakamichi groups, Keyakizaka46 is especially known for their stylish musicality.

While the group has many difficult songs, there are some that are easy to sing.

One I particularly recommend is “I Can’t Learn to Love Myself.” The melody is very catchy, and the vocal line doesn’t involve complex ups and downs in pitch.

The vocal range is fairly standard, so it doesn’t depend on the singer’s voice type, making it a song with strong potential for high scores.

Be sure to check it out.

YoursSuda Masaki

Masaki Suda’s fifth overall digital-only single, released in July 2023.

Set over a simply arranged ballad, it lets you fully enjoy Suda’s unadorned, heartfelt vocals.

The vocal melody is very straightforward and easy to sing, so definitely try singing it and aim for a high score! Mastering the falsetto (head voice) used in the high notes will be the key to scoring well, so make sure to study that part carefully before you take on the challenge!

Marigoldaimyon

Marigoldaimyon

Aimer’s fifth major single, released on August 8, 2018.

It’s a mid-tempo song built on a very straightforward melody, making it an ideal choice when you want to aim for a high score at karaoke.

Because the melody is simple, there’s a high risk of it sounding monotonous if you sing it like a hum, so when you perform it, be sure to feel the backbeat accents on beats 2 and 4 in the track to keep the rhythm from becoming flat.

A song released in 2019 by Masaki Suda, an actor hugely popular among middle and high school students who also enjoys immense success as a singer.

The lyrics and composition were handled by Kenshi Yonezu, who is likewise very popular with the same age group.

It’s a love song with many relatable and moving parts that might even bring you to tears, offering plenty of standout moments.

The key isn’t very high, making it an easy choice for karaoke beginners to try.
