[Hip-Hop Classics] Standard HIPHOP / Timeless Masterpieces (71–80)
Hey Ya!OutKast

Outkast is a group praised for flexibly absorbing a wide range of musical elements—rooted in funk but drawing from pop, rock, and electronic—to build a distinctive sound.
They are also one of the most commercially successful hip-hop groups, and “Hey Ya!” is among the standout hits of the 2000s, blending a breezy beat, tumbling, off-kilter rhymes, and an irresistibly singable melody.
Rebel Without A PausePublic Enemy

An East Coast hip-hop classic, skillfully built by sampling “The Grunt” by James Brown’s band, The J.B.’s—a hip-hop classic in its own right.
The title appears to be a play on the film “Rebel Without a Cause.” Released in 1987, it was later included on the album “It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back.”
P.S.K. ‘What Does It Mean’?Schoolly D

A signature track from Philly OG Jesse Bonds Weaver Jr., aka Schoolly D, included on his debut album “Schoolly D” and released in ’86.
It’s often hailed as a miraculous, history-making song in hip-hop.
Released independently on his own Schoolly-D Records at the time, the track was recorded in a standard music studio; legend has it they randomly used a reverb unit they didn’t know how to operate, paired it with a TR-808, and knocked the whole thing out in one night.
The ferocious drums and heavy-handed reverb ended up sounding strikingly fresh, and once you know the backstory, the track hits in a completely different way—a true classic.

Rubber Band ManT.I.

This is the third single from his second album, Trap Muzik.
Back in 2003, when he wasn’t yet widely known, T.I.
gradually made waves with his second album, Trap Muzik, and started to establish his presence in the scene.
He gained significant attention for appearing on a Kanye West project.
However, what was actually more popular locally were stoic tracks like this one.
According to T.I.
himself, the song’s title refers to his habit of wearing a rubber band around his wrist, a memory from his days as a dealer.
Protect Ya Neck (The Jump Off)Wu Tang Clan

The powerhouse of underground hip-hop, Wu-Tang Clan, reportedly took their group name from a kung fu movie title, and they’ve always drawn attention with their uniquely unconventional activities.
One particularly memorable example is that they created their own original video game.
Has any other hip-hop group ever done something like that, before or since, besides Wu-Tang Clan? Of course, they’re also highly acclaimed musically.
Their sound centers on gritty, dope tracks that are far from pop, characterized by a style that embodies the stoicism of hip-hop.
Murder On My MindYNW Melly

This is a song released in 2018 by YNW Melly, a young Florida-born rapper born in 1999, memorable for the way his gold teeth shine when he opens his mouth.
Sadly, in February 2019 he was arrested as a suspect in a murder case.
While the truth is unknown, the song also drew attention because its content is said to resemble that incident.
RansomLil Tecca

In an era where music naturally spreads across the internet, he’s a young rapper who shot from obscurity straight to the majors.
He was 16 in 2019, and listeners with a keen ear might already know him well.
Knowing his background, this track becomes especially intriguing—a single song that showcases a unique sensibility and a sense of a new era unbound by anything.
