To make it, draw a spiral on a square piece of colored construction paper and cut along the line with scissors—that’s it! You can customize the dragon’s head as you like.
Adding plastic dividers used for lunchboxes (baran) to the dragon’s body will enhance the look.

Dragon Origami
Among the twelve zodiac animals, the dragon (tatsu) is the only mythical creature.
It has a dynamic and cool image, doesn’t it? Let’s enjoy making a dragon with origami.
Origami is also effective for seniors as finger dexterity training and for dementia prevention! Use a regular-sized sheet of origami paper for the dragon’s head and a smaller sheet for the body.
The key for the head is to make firm creases as you fold.
Finally, combine the body with the head and add details like eyes, nose, mouth, and whiskers to finish! Its look is more cute than cool, so it’s also recommended as a gift for your grandchildren.
Stylish kadomatsu made with artificial flowers
How about making a chic, stylish kadomatsu using artificial flowers? If you’re tired of traditional Japanese-style kadomatsu, it’s fun to try something a bit different! You can get all the materials at the 100-yen shop, so it’s easy to make.
The key to this project is taking apart a 100-yen kadomatsu decoration and rearranging it.
By adding flowers like roses in subdued colors and incorporating metallic materials, you’ll get an elegant look.
Painting the bamboo sections black will give the kadomatsu an even more refined finish.

Snowflake garland
A snowflake garland made from origami or patterned paper—perfect for winter.
Paper cutting is also effective for training seniors’ finger dexterity and helping to prevent dementia, so it could be ideal for craft activities at day service centers.
First, fold your favorite origami paper into a triangle three times, draw a snowflake design, and cut it out with scissors.
Carefully open it, place it face up, align the second piece at the center and glue it, then make four mountain folds to give it a three-dimensional shape.

A spinning top often played with during the New Year—how about making one out of origami? Since you fold it using multiple sheets of origami paper, it ends up looking colorful and cute, which is part of the charm.
