Recommended Japanese Jazz Bands — From Classic Legends to Emerging Talent (41–50)
atomjizue

Pronounced “Jizoo,” this Japanese four-piece instrumental band formed in Kyoto in 2006 and has continued to make waves beyond the jazz sphere, including performing at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2012.
Their sound—delivered with the classic lineup of piano, bass, guitar, and drums—is brimming with tension, and their sheer dynamism is so cool and compelling it would send your average rock band running for the hills.
It’s also great how their songs are studded with lyrical, beautiful melodies.
Highly recommended for fans of bands with a post-rock leaning, such as toe and mouse on the keys.
As You LikeThe Jazz Avengers

The Jazz Avengers is a jazz instrumental band made up of eight Japanese women musicians who are world-class in their craft.
Formed in 2021 under the leadership of Senri Kawaguchi, they deliver a fresh sound that brings together exceptional skill and unique personalities across saxophone, drums, guitar, and more.
They made their major-label debut in April 2023 with the album THE JAZZ AVENGERS and have continued to stay highly active since.
One standout story speaks to their extraordinary talent: Kawaguchi, who began playing drums at age five, was selected as a top drummer on a renowned global drumming website at just thirteen.
Guided by the principles of the SDGs, the group also engages in activities beyond music, including efforts to reduce gender disparity.
If you’re looking to enjoy music grounded in jazz, funk, and fusion with a fresh sensibility, this is the band for you.
SweetieOur Love to Stay

The jazz arranged in a Charleston style is played in an up-tempo swing, putting you in a lighthearted mood.
Although the band Our Love to Stay sadly ceased activities after their live performance in May 2008, many fans still hope for their return.
Horizonindigo jam unit

Although they unfortunately announced a hiatus in 2016, indigo jam unit is a four-piece band that kept releasing albums at the astonishing pace of one per year since forming in 2005.
All of their albums were recorded in single takes with no overdubs or edits—an unwavering commitment to a truly “live” sound.
Their music uniquely interprets the individual roots of the four members—classical, jazz, funk, and Latin.
Combining the sophistication of club jazz with the heat and dynamism to rival any rock band, their sound is something not only jazz lovers but all music fans should hear.
All of their original albums come highly recommended, and their special projects—featuring female vocalists or cover albums—are also excellent showcases of their wide-ranging talents.
All of youLiquid Stella

Formed in 2019, the three-piece instrumental band Liquid Stella offers a captivating fusion of jazz and pop.
The refined musicianship of its accomplished members—Sota Yamazaki, Rintaro Kondo, and Kenshin Sugimura—blossomed on their 2023 album AUTHENTIC.
The release has surpassed 900,000 streams and earned them the cover spot on Spotify’s official playlist Jazz Fusion Japan.
A track featuring ASMR artist Chelsea also drew attention, and in February 2025 they successfully celebrated their 5th anniversary with a live show at BLUES ALLEY JAPAN.
Rooted in jazz yet pursuing a soothing atmosphere and catchy melodies, their music is perfect for those seeking a calm, relaxing time.
