Recommended classic tracks of Japanese reggae: Japanese reggae songs that resonate with the heart
A must-hear collection of classic tracks for fans of Japanese reggae—“Japa-reggae.”
This includes reggae-influenced pop that was popular in Jamaica from the 1960s to the 1980s, and the evolution into dancehall reggae, which helped take root in Japan thanks to RANKIN TAXI—often called the father of Japanese reggae—continuing his Kansai radio program “Natty Jamaica.”
Today, it’s loved as a culture that transcends time and borders.
Reggae’s open, liberating vibe and its powerful, positive musicality are truly uplifting to listen to!
Tune in with an ear for songs that wish for a bright future and celebrate everyday life.

Recommended classic Japanese reggae songs: Japanese reggae tracks that touch the heart (81–90)
EscapeARC-MAN

This is “Escape” by ARC-MAN, released in 2019.
He’s a reggae artist based in Osaka.
It’s a distinctive track where he delivers a message—stick to your individuality!—with clever wordplay and an upbeat flow.
As a one-of-a-kind person, you’re encouraged to keep moving forward as yourself, no matter what happens.
Love SoulRickie-G

A voice that gently wraps around the heart of someone in love—such an impression it leaves.
Set to the warm tones of an acoustic guitar, it sings of the bond with a beloved.
Released in February 2008, this song drew attention as a single by Rickie-G.
Its bittersweet atmosphere that evokes the end of summer and its powerful message resonate deeply.
The organic finish that makes the most of the band sound is also appealing.
Recommended for those who love acoustic music or times when you want to calm your mind.
Just by listening, you may feel hope welling up for tomorrow.
Pure Love SongShonan no Kaze

Speaking of Japanese reggae, you can’t leave out Shonan no Kaze—they’re practically indispensable.
It’s no exaggeration to say they helped popularize reggae among younger audiences who weren’t deeply familiar with the genre.
They’re regulars at summer festivals, and many of their songs are huge crowd-pleasers, but the track that really catapulted them to fame is likely “Junrenka.” Released in 2006 as their fifth single, it became a long-running hit and stands as one of their signature songs.
It’s a moving love song told from a somewhat awkward, male perspective that really hits home.
TAKE ME AWAY feat. AKANE & AKLODJ HAZIME

Alongside DABO and SUIKEN, DJ HAZIME was a driving force in the hip-hop scene of the 1990s.
He’s known as a highly conscientious DJ and a genius who can boss any club.
Among his works, the one I especially recommend is “TAKE ME AWAY feat.
AKANE & AKLO.” It features AKANE, a young reggae singer, and AKLO, a rapper who commands immense props.
It leans more toward reggaeton than Jamaican reggae, so even those not familiar with reggae should find it approachable.
BRAND NEW DAYDAISEN

A skilled reggae artist who, on one hand, freely commands a DJ style that morphs between intensely dynamic vibes and masterful flows, and on the other, sings with a technique that fuses endlessly gentle melodies with messages that strike straight at the heart.
This song offers a warm, powerful energy, telling you that even if you come to a halt in life, you can take a step forward again when you believe it’s time to grow stronger.
COMAGAINAkane, Rudebwoy Face, Rueed feat Pushim

Is it about the excitement of tonight? Or about that love you were about to give up on? The song doesn’t describe any specific event clearly, but if there are lingering regrets, it conveys a hopeful message of “please come back.” They’ve recreated the golden collaboration fans have been longing for since the buzzworthy release Asobitai.

I Was in Love with You feat. BENI, Shuta Sueyoshi (AAA) & HAN-KUNSPICY CHOCOLATE

This is a hit track featuring guest appearances by BENI, the songstress from Okinawa; Shuta Sueyoshi from AAA, known for his sweet looks; and HAN-KUN, the ace of the Japanese reggae scene with overwhelming vocal power.
Compared to other reggae songs, it’s an achingly bittersweet love song that’s second to none, and it became a track that resonated even with people who hadn’t listened to reggae before, helping broaden the genre’s fan base.
