Today's Reggae: Unique Grooves × World Music | A Curated Selection of Enchanting Classics (1–10)
Inna Di DancehallMillion Stylez

Jamaica is the home of reggae, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only hotspot.
The UK and Sweden, both with significant Jamaican immigrant communities, are countries in Europe where reggae draws particular attention.
One DJ making major waves in Sweden is Million Stylez, who performs “Inna Di Dancehall.” This track is one of his signature songs, pairing a simple riddim with stylish vocals.
It’s both sleek and easy to groove to, so be sure to use it as BGM for your reggae dance sessions.
Run Dancehall ft. Lisa MercedezVybz Kartel

Vybz Kartel, the Jamaican deejay who’s earned props worldwide for his overwhelming musicality.
If you like reggae, you definitely know this famous artist.
Even within Japa-reggae, he excels at the hardcore style you often see in Kansai.
He’s currently behind bars, serving a life sentence for murder.
Even so, the fact that he keeps releasing new tracks is something you can’t help but big up, despite his crime.
“Run Dancehall ft.
Lisa Mercedez” is one of his signature tunes—a dancehall track wrapped in a serious melody.
The tempo isn’t fast, but it’s perfect for powerful reggae dancing, don’t you think?
RAGGAMUFFIN LIFEFurankī Parisu

When it comes to Japanese reggae, many artists are influenced by Jamaica.
In contrast, Frankie Paris draws her inspiration from British reggae.
As a result, her music tends to lean less toward hard-hitting dancehall and more toward a stylish, refined sound.
Among her works, the track I especially recommend for reggae dance is “RAGGAMUFFIN LIFE.” Despite its tough-sounding title, it’s crafted into a languid, gentle reggae tune.
Pika Pika feat. Spinna B-ILL & EXPRESSSPICY CHOCOLATE

SPICY CHOCOLATE is a reggae sound system that began in 1994, with KATSUYUKI a.k.a.
DJ CONTROLER as the core member.
The featured members change with each project, and on this track Spinna B-ILL and EXPRESS are featured.
While it has a reggae flavor, their refreshing vocal tones are as lovely as a blue sky.
It was released in April 2023.
The lyrics feel springlike and give you courage, as if they’re encouraging those starting a new chapter in life.
Light It Up feat. RUDEBWOY FACE & ¥ellow BucksBANTY FOOT

When people think of reggae, I imagine most picture Osaka.
It’s true that Osaka is often called the holy land of reggae in Japan, with many outstanding deejays and singers.
But that doesn’t mean great artists are concentrated only in Osaka.
BANTY FOOT, who perform “Light It Up feat.
RUDEBWOY FACE & ¥ellow Bucks,” are a reggae group representing the Tokai region and have released numerous classics.
Among them, this track became a nationwide hit, partly because it features ¥ellow Bucks, who is hugely popular in today’s hip-hop scene.
It’s a masterpiece where the strengths of reggae and hip-hop are expressed fully without getting in each other’s way.
The Mole’s SongEXPRESS

The genre of reggae tends to be seen as something unfamiliar in Japan.
There are people who listen to it a lot, but many others don’t listen to it at all.
For those people, I recommend EXPRESS’s “Mogura no Uta.” It’s a well-known track in Japanese reggae and one I definitely want first-time listeners to hear.

Rita Ice, a singer-songwriter from Jamaica, is one of the world’s best-known female reggae singers, renowned for her advanced vocal technique and expressive power.
Among her tracks, a DUB I especially recommend is “Dinero [TAK-Z DUB – Japandinero Riddim].” It’s a DUB produced by Japanese DJ TAK-Z, and the result is an exceptionally sophisticated tune.
