[2026] Collection of Masterpieces by Overseas Jazz Bands (21–30)
In the MoodGLENN MILLER ORCHESTRA

The Glenn Miller Orchestra is performing In the Mood.
In addition to that, Glenn Miller had many other hits, including Moonlight Serenade, Little Brown Jug, and Chattanooga Choo Choo, which are performed by many bands.
Love for SaleBuddy Rich & His Orchestra

The performance of Cole Porter’s “Love for Sale” is by jazz drummer Buddy Rich and his orchestra.
His drumming technique is incredible—precise in rhythm and full of drive.
Even when the horns are taking a solo, you can’t help but be drawn to him.
Sing, Sing, SingBenny Goodman

In the United States around the 1930s, due to policies of racial discrimination such as the Jim Crow laws in the South—and even in places like New York—it was unheard of for white and Black musicians to perform together in the same band.
Born the ninth son in a tailor’s family, Benny Goodman, who grew up in poverty, broke with America’s entrenched prejudices by inviting Black drummers and guitarists and performing alongside them in his own band.
River DanceBob Curnow

He conducted the trombone section of the famed Stan Kenton Big Band in the 1960s, and from 1973 served as the overall producer of Creative World Records, which managed and released the Kenton label, issuing a total of 25 albums.
He continued to create works infused with a variety of flavors, producing pieces that presented big band music to the public with greater clarity.
A must-listen!
Four BrothersWoody Herman

Woody Herman started his career in the blues.
It’s not often talked about now, but the famed Ben Webster was once in his band.
He helped pioneer a new scene as a modern big band.
In the 1960s, Dusko Gojkovic was a member.
Hop Skip & JumpRoy Milton & His Solid Senders

His heartwarming R&B rhythms and richly rounded, dignified vocal tone are outstanding.
On top of that, he skillfully handles everything from slow numbers to high-tempo tracks.
Some critics say his strength lies less in shouts than in crisp precision.
In faster songs, he often kicks off with a boogie-woogie piano intro, and the call-and-response with his vocals is sure to captivate every music fan.
Switch in TimeSammy Nestico

From a physical standpoint, this is “Switch in Time,” a track on what would be one of Sammy Nestico’s last albums he was able to actively work on.
I listen to it as music left to us by a precious predecessor.
And as for Sammy, I’m in awe of his cool-headedness: despite suffering the serious misfortune of breaking his leg while traveling, it wasn’t known to anyone outside those involved.
