Bubble play

Foam play is perfect for a July event.
Prepare a pool or a large basin so the children can have a blast.
Once you make the foam, use a whisk or a stick with rounded ends to mix it.
The mixing process is so fun that both adults and children will be totally absorbed! It’s also recommended to add color to the foam to make “juice,” pour it into plastic bottles, and turn it into a pretend juice shop.
Please be careful to prevent accidental ingestion, such as putting foam in the mouth, and enjoy playing safely!
Tanzaku Panel Theater

Here’s a panel theater with wish slips (tanzaku) that will liven up your Tanabata event.
When you think of Tanabata, many children write their wishes on tanzaku, right? In this story, those tanzaku appear on the panel.
There’s a tanzaku filled with wishes but no name written on it.
Whose tanzaku could it be? As you read the wishes, encourage the children to guess who wrote it.
Using a piano or guitar to boost the excitement is also recommended.
At the end, ask the children what kind of wishes they would like to make!
Paper Theater

July brings the heat and plenty of chances to play with water, doesn’t it? In this paper theater, river fish and cute familiar animals make an appearance.
Perform it while shaking and flipping the papers to the song, watching the children’s reactions and having fun together.
A key point is building excitement by wondering what will appear when you turn the next page.
Since it’s July, it’s also a great idea to prepare drawings of sea creatures.
Try mixing in a quiz—Where does this creature live?—and enjoy it together!

sleepover
I think many preschools plan an overnight stay for the oldest class.
As children move up to the oldest group, their admiration grows because they know there will be an overnight event.
The children who take part will likely feel both excited to spend time with friends and teachers away from their families and a little bit anxious.
There will be lots of fun activities, like cooking meals together, having a campfire, and watching a movie! To help prevent anxiety in this different environment, share the overall plan with the children and check in with parents beforehand about any concerns, so everyone can enjoy a fun overnight stay.

Here are some ideas for a summer-themed pretend shop that kids can enjoy indoors.
Have the children wear happi coats or put on masks of their favorite characters to join in.
The shop themes are up to you.
You could set up a seashell hunt using strips of cellophane tape that evoke the summer ocean, a quiz where kids guess sea creature silhouettes, or festival-style stalls like shaved ice and yo-yo fishing—so many fun ideas! Try transforming the usual classroom atmosphere completely and prepare lots of wonderful little shops.
playing in the river
Summer is a great season for playing in rivers.
When planning river activities, always have guardians check how comfortable the children are with water.
Teachers should also conduct a site inspection in advance and confirm on the day that the weather is safe and the river’s water level hasn’t risen.
It’s important for all teachers to thoroughly check that the play area is shallow, that children can firmly stand, and that there are no hazardous spots.
Make sure children wear life jackets, clearly go over the rules for river play, and assign a higher number of teachers relative to the number of children.
Summer Memory Pretend Play

Here are some pretend-play ideas for making summer memories indoors during the hot season.
Try handmade barbecues, bug-hunting searches, and goldfish scooping—create them together with the kids and have fun.
For the barbecue, talk with the children about what ingredients they want to make, then create them together.
For the bug-hunting search, the key is to think about where to stick photos or illustrations of insects at the children’s eye level and get creative with placement.
For goldfish scooping, rescue origami fish carefully so they don’t fall.
Competing to see how many you can catch also sounds fun! These are great activities for enjoying play indoors even on hot summer days.
