Craft ideas to try in July for 3-year-olds

A three-year-old who loves discovering lots of new things every day.

It can be challenging for teachers to come up with fun craft activities, right?

Here, we’ve gathered craft ideas that are perfect for July.

Let’s create enjoyable projects with the children using materials and themes that evoke summer.

By using their hands and exploring colors, children can take pleasure in their own creativity.

Be sure to try a variety of ideas and enjoy a fun time together.

Because the children’s creations are treated as finished works, the term is standardized as “seisaku (制作)” throughout the text.

Stamp Juice

[Summer Craft] Let’s Make Juice with Color Film, Sponges, and Round Stickers! [For 3-Year-Olds]
Stamp Juice

On hot summer days, cold juice tastes especially delicious, doesn’t it? That said, chugging sweet juice might not be so good for your body.

In times like that, why not make colorful juices you can enjoy with your eyes? You can create a fun, pop look by painting patterns with a sponge and paint or decorating with stickers.

You can also express the juice’s clarity by layering colored film on top.

Light reflects off the translucent film, and just looking at it can make you feel cool and refreshed.

Ice cream is something you’ll want to eat every day once summer arrives.

How about incorporating a three-dimensional ice cream craft into your July activities? Using shaving foam, you can create ice cream with a wonderfully fluffy texture! All you need to do is mix shaving foam, white craft glue, and food coloring.

Attach a cone cutout to construction paper, decorate it with your ice cream, and you’re done! You can also add stickers or draw designs for extra decoration.

This fun, super tactile craft is sure to delight children.

A cute heart-themed Tanabata card

July 7th is Tanabata.

Here’s a perfect craft idea for the occasion.

You can also use it as a wall decoration, so give it a try! Cut blue construction paper into a heart shape and use a cotton swab stamp to create a starry sky all over.

In the center of the heart, use finger stamps to depict the Milky Way.

Make the outfits for the Orihime and Hikoboshi figures using a bleeding-art technique with coffee filters, then attach the facial parts made from construction paper.

Once you’ve glued Orihime and Hikoboshi onto the heart base, it’s complete.

If you want to hang it as a wall decoration, punch a hole in the base and thread a ribbon through it.

Paper Cutout Star

Let’s try making a star papercut that could also be used as a Tanabata decoration.

First, fold the origami paper into the specified shape before cutting.

By folding it into that shape and then cutting, it will turn into a star.

After folding the origami paper in half, fold the top-right corner down to meet the bottom edge and the bottom-right corner up to meet the top edge to create an X-shaped crease.

Next, fold the bottom-left corner to the center of the X, then fold that corner back to the opposite side.

Align the right bottom edge with the new edge created by the fold and crease.

Flip the paper over and fold it in half along the center line.

After that, simply cut straight across the top at an upward right diagonal with scissors—and that’s it! Since some steps may be tricky for three-year-olds, work in small groups with adult support.

Shaved ice production

[Craft Fair Booth] Let’s make shaved ice♪ Easy craft! Festival vibes! Make it and have fun!
Shaved ice production

On hot days, you can’t help but crave a cold shaved ice, right? Many people probably make sure to have some at festivals.

Let’s make this classic summer treat! You’ll need a paper cup, cotton, tissues, and paint.

Draw your favorite illustrations all over the paper cup, then stuff it full of cotton.

Place torn pieces of tissue on top to create a crunchy ice texture.

Finally, pour colored water made with paint over it, and you’re done.

If you use an actual syrup bottle, it’ll feel even more like a festival! Try making it while enjoying a conversation like, “What flavor do you like?”

Refreshing Melon Soda

Melon Soda Perfect for Summer! Preschool Craft
Refreshing Melon Soda

With a scoop of ice cream on top of juice, it’s like a dream drink, isn’t it? Melon soda looks refreshing and is perfect for summer crafts, so be sure to try making it with the kids.

First, cut out the glass, the juice portion, the ice cream, and the cherry from colored construction paper.

An adult should draw the outlines, and have the children do the cutting.

Once the parts are cut out, use a sponge and a straw to stamp the juice section to create the look of ice and bubbles.

Finally, glue all the pieces onto the backing paper, and you’re done!

Soramame-kun’s Meadow Playtime

[Kindergarten/Preschool] Themed on a Popular Picture Book! July: Soramame-kun’s Meadow Play – Art and Crafts
Soramame-kun’s Meadow Playtime

Here are some craft ideas for July inspired by the popular picture book series “Soramame-kun”! Let’s all work together to make cute Soramame-kun characters.

For Soramame-kun and Edamame-kun, cut origami paper into bean shapes and use jute twine to make their legs.

Also, let’s make flat pinwheels out of origami.

When children use scissors, please make sure teachers or guardians provide support.

In addition to pasting the crafts onto backing paper to display on the wall, it’s also fine to make pinwheels you can actually hold and play with.

Just like Soramame-kun and friends, it might be fun to take your pinwheels out to the playground and enjoy the summer breeze.
