[4-year-olds] Crafts to make with middle preschoolers in July–August! Summer-themed art activities (1–10)
Playing campsite

Here’s a handmade “pretend camping” activity you can enjoy outdoors, too.
Let’s make a tent—an essential for camping—by drawing pictures on a plastic bag with colored pens.
For fishing, blow up balloons and turn them into fish.
Talk about what colors you want your fish to be as you make them! For the barbecue, make the corn by wrapping bubble wrap to create the texture.
Prepare other foods like yakisoba and vegetables, and chat about what kind of barbecue you want while you make them.
A handmade camping day like this is sure to be a hit!
Osakana-maru Uchiwa

A cool-looking design perfect for summer! Let’s make a round fish fan.
Prepare two pieces of thick paper cut into 20 cm circles.
On both, draw a fish in the center and a small circle at the bottom for the handle, then cut them out.
Attach a piece of clear file, cut to a size that can fully cover the fish, onto one of the thick paper circles.
On top of that, stick small pieces of colored cellophane to create the scales.
Layer and glue the remaining thick paper on top, then add the fish’s eyes and mouth made from round stickers.
Finally, draw seaweed and bubbles on the white parts of the thick paper, and it’s done!
Summer wall display using paints

In summer, even if things get dirty, the laundry dries quickly, doesn’t it? Here are some summer wall art ideas using paint that are perfect for July.
Put paint on bubble wrap wrapped around a paper cup, and stamp it onto the center of a sunflower like a stamp.
The bubble wrap’s texture makes the sunflower look three-dimensional.
For the water yo-yos you often see at summer festival stalls, mix glue into the paint and gently flick the brush to add color.
You’ll get wonderfully accidental patterns.
You can display them however you like, but decorating them in a festival stall style for a summery feel is also recommended!
sunflower
Bright, cheerful sunflowers that symbolize summer are perfect for wall displays! For these sunflowers, prepare origami paper, scissors, and glue.
Cut the yellow origami paper into vertical strips to make individual petals.
By adding creases, you’ll create a more three-dimensional sunflower.
Glue the petals on one by one to form a large sunflower.
The key is to stagger the petals as you attach them so they don’t overlap too much.
For the center of the sunflower, make fine cuts into folded origami paper with scissors, then roll it into a tube to add dimension.
Create sunflowers in various sizes and turn your wall into a bright, summery display.
ice cream

I’ll show you how to fold a cold and tasty ice cream.
Prepare one sheet of origami paper and fold it into a triangle.
Open it once, then fold the corners in so they meet the center line.
Fold the bottom corner up to overlap the top corner, then flip it over.
Fold about one quarter of the larger triangle to separate the ice cream from the cone.
Finally, flip it over and fold the tips slightly to refine the shape—your ice cream is complete! It’s also fun to use colored pens to color the flavor you like and add toppings.
silky beach

Summer-themed art projects and activities not only let children enjoy the season, they also nurture their imagination! Let’s try expressing a beach atmosphere through art to boost those summer vibes.
Kids can color freely on construction paper shaped like a beach umbrella, or tear tissue paper to resemble beach sand and glue it onto paper.
With their free ideas, what kind of beach will they create? Both children and teachers will be excited to find out.
It would also be lovely to display the children’s drawings or photos under the umbrella!
Summer Memory Pretend Play

Here are some pretend-play ideas for making summer memories indoors during the hot season.
Try handmade barbecues, bug-hunting searches, and goldfish scooping—create them together with the kids and have fun.
For the barbecue, talk with the children about what ingredients they want to make, then create them together.
For the bug-hunting search, the key is to think about where to stick photos or illustrations of insects at the children’s eye level and get creative with placement.
For goldfish scooping, rescue origami fish carefully so they don’t fall.
Competing to see how many you can catch also sounds fun! These are great activities for enjoying play indoors even on hot summer days.
