[4-year-olds] Craft ideas to enjoy with children in June
June brings a lot of rain, making it hard to enjoy outdoor childcare.
However, rain is also said to be a blessing.
How about having fun indoors with some crafts? Creating something with their own hands gives children a sense of achievement and joy.
Four-year-olds in particular are at a great age to try new things with all kinds of creative ideas.
Encourage them to experiment with different materials while thinking about colors and shapes.
Here, we’re sharing a variety of craft ideas to help you enjoy rainy days! Use them as inspiration and have a wonderful June together with the children.

Colorful Hydrangeas Made with Bubble Wrap

Let’s make cute hydrangeas using bubble wrap, a common packing material.
First, cut construction paper into leaf shapes and draw the veins with crayons or colored pencils.
Next, paste bubble wrap onto construction paper in your favorite color and cut it into hydrangea flower shapes.
Finish by coloring over the attached bubble wrap with permanent markers.
It’s exciting to think about what colors and patterns to use.
Coloring each tiny bump one by one is perfect for developing children’s concentration and fine motor skills.
Give it a try!
ribbit-ribbit frog

Here’s a craft idea for a “Ribbit-Ribbit Frog” that lets you enjoy frog croaks.
Poke a hole in a paper cup and thread a straw through it; moving the straw creates friction that makes a ribbit-ribbit sound.
First, draw a rainy-season-themed picture on the paper cup.
If drawing directly on the cup is difficult, cut out a piece of construction paper shaped like the side of the cup, draw on it, and then glue it on.
Use an awl or similar tool to make a hole in the bottom and insert the straw.
Be careful not to make the hole too large, or it won’t make a sound.
Finally, attach a construction-paper frog to the top of the straw, and you’re done! Move the straw to make your frog croak.

Let’s make a three-dimensional umbrella out of origami—an essential item for rainy days! The steps are very simple.
Prepare 10 sheets of origami paper, all cut into circles of the same size.
Fold each one into quarters.
Once you’ve folded all 10, glue them together one by one, stacking them up.
Finally, take a pipe cleaner, bend it into a curved shape to resemble the umbrella handle, and tape it to the center of the stacked origami.
You’re done! If you hang everyone’s creations from the ceiling, even rainy days will feel cheerful.
Try using different colors and patterns of origami to make your very own favorite umbrella.
Broad beans you make by sticking (pieces) on

Broad beans, which are said to be in season from April to June, are perfect for spring crafts.
This time, we’ll introduce a project that uses these broad beans.
Prepare by pre-cutting the pod and bean shapes out of construction paper.
If the children are old enough and comfortable using scissors, it’s also great to let them cut the pieces themselves.
Glue the pod and beans onto a base sheet of construction paper, draw faces on the beans, and you’re done.
The steps are very simple, so even younger children can enjoy making this.
The vivid green of the broad beans is sure to energize the kids even more.
Give it a try!
My one-piece dress

Why not have fun trying a painting activity inspired by the popular children’s picture book “My Dress”? You will need rabbit parts, a triangle-shaped piece of paper, bottle caps with felt attached, paint, glue, and a pen.
First, stick felt in any shape you like onto a plastic bottle cap.
Dip the felt in paint and stamp patterns onto the triangle paper.
Once the paint is dry, glue on the face and hands.
Draw the face, add decorations around it, and you’re done! Make it colorful with your favorite colors.
[Suzuran Tape] Hydrangea Craft

Would you like to try making hydrangeas using plastic raffia (suzuran tape)? By combining different colored tapes, they turn out really beautiful.
In advance, please prepare three bundles made by tightly knotting together three colors of plastic raffia and trimming both sides to the same length, as well as a sheet of construction paper with outlines for the hydrangea base and leaves.
Have the children cut along the outlines on the construction paper, then glue the leaves and the hydrangea flowers made from the plastic raffia onto the base.
Since plastic raffia doesn’t adhere easily, press it firmly for about 10 seconds!
[Origami] Hydrangea Flower

When you think of flowers that bloom in June, many people probably picture hydrangeas.
Let’s incorporate hydrangeas into a June craft.
First, divide a sheet of origami paper into four equal parts.
Fold one piece into a triangle, then fold it into a triangle once more.
Open the triangle to form a square.
Next, with the flaps facing up, fold both sides toward the center.
Repeat the same steps on the back side.
Once you spread the flaps out to the top, bottom, left, and right, the petal part is complete.
Finally, place several petal pieces onto a leaf-shaped piece of origami and glue them down to finish.
If you make lots of flower pieces in various colors, you can create an even more vibrant hydrangea.
Using washi or dyed paper for the leaves can also give it a beautiful finish.
