Stained glass-style cream soda

Let’s try making a cream soda with a stained-glass look—so cute! Cut out the outline of a glass from white construction paper and stick clear tape over the front.

Flip the frame over and attach small pieces of colored cellophane inside the frame.

Cover it with clear tape from the top, then trim off any excess around the edges with scissors.

Glue on the ice cream, whipped cream, fruit, and straw made from construction paper, and you’re done.

Prepare various colors of cellophane so the kids can make it in their favorite color combinations!

Festival yo-yo with a marble run

Marbles are sometimes found in ramune soda, so they tend to evoke a summery feeling, don’t they? Here’s a craft idea that uses those marbles.

Line a box with construction paper, then roll marbles coated with paint over the paper.

Wherever the marbles roll, they leave paint and create patterns.

Try expressing patterns freely using paints in various colors.

Once the paint dries, cut the paper into a yo-yo shape, attach a fastener made from pink construction paper and a rubber band with the end rounded, and you’re done! It’s also a great idea for a summer wall display.

Sunflowers made with paper plates, tissues, and origami paper

Perfect for summer! Here are some sunflower craft ideas.

Use a paper plate as the base for the sunflower.

First, tear origami paper into long, thin strips.

Apply glue around the rim of the paper plate and stick the origami pieces on.

Cut a circle from construction paper to fit the open center, draw patterns with crayons, then paint over it.

Place a tissue over the top to make a rubbing/transfer effect, then cut it into a circle and glue it in the middle of the paper plate.

If you prepare different colors and patterned origami, your sunflower will look even more vibrant.

Marble ice with paper towels

When it comes to summertime sweets, it has to be ice cream! So let’s make some marble ice cream using rolled-up kitchen paper.

First, cut out the cone, heart, and spoon pieces from construction paper.

Paste the cone onto the backing sheet, draw a pattern on it, then roll up the kitchen paper, stack two scoops, and glue them on.

Soak the kitchen paper with watercolor paint thinned with water to add color, and finish by gluing the remaining pieces onto the empty spaces of the backing sheet.

It’ll be fun to see what kind of marble patterns the kids come up with!

Fluffy shaved ice made with tissues

Shaved ice is a classic at summer festivals! Haven’t most kids tried it at least once? Here, we’ll introduce a craft idea that expresses shaved ice using tissue.

First, cut white construction paper into a mountain shape, then apply glue and stick on crumpled tissue.

Soak it with watercolor paint diluted with water to make the syrup.

Finally, attach it to a plate made from construction paper, and it’s done! Using syrups in different colors makes it look great and will be fun for the kids, too.

Watermelon and Melon Made with Construction Paper

When summer comes, you start craving red, sweet watermelon, don’t you? So as a summer craft idea, how about making a watermelon? Cut out two green circular pieces, one red circular piece, and one white circular piece from construction paper.

Use a cotton swab to stamp seeds onto the red piece, and glue torn pieces of black origami paper onto one of the green pieces to create the watermelon rind pattern.

Fold that patterned green piece and the white piece in half.

Then, on a green base, layer and glue the patterned green piece, the white piece, and the stamped red piece in that order.

Add a vine, and you’re done!

Cute crab

Cute crab

Searching for crabs that often hide among rocks in the sea or rivers can be a wonderfully seasonal and fulfilling activity for children.

Here’s a simple origami crab you can make.

Fold into a triangle and a square to create creases.

Using those creases as guides, tuck the paper inward to form a triangle and shape the model.

While aligning with the central starting point and center line, fold and bend to create the crab’s claws and legs.

A key tip is to press the folds firmly.

Draw eyes on round stickers, attach them, and you’re done!
