sorrow starCHUNGYOILE

Chung Yoile is bringing a fresh breeze to the Korean music scene.
Their unique sound, infused with elements of alternative music, is captivating, with Jung-o serving as vocalist and guitarist.
Starting out in the indie scene, they have earned support across generations with a genre-defying musical style.
In 2024, they held the “IDIOTS & CHUNGYOILE JAPAN TOUR” in Japan, performing at DOMe Kashiwa in Chiba and MOONSTEP in Nakano, Tokyo, expanding their activities across borders.
Centered on live performances, they are gaining attention as an artist with strong musicality and a distinctive aesthetic.
Highly recommended for those interested in the diversity of Korean music or seeking a new musical experience that fuses tradition and modernity.
So TenderSay Sue Me

Say Sue Me is a four-piece band from Busan, located in the southeastern part of South Korea.
Their sound evokes UK rock reminiscent of Radiohead and Coldplay.
The songs they create have a pleasantly soothing vibe that could be called the very essence of indie rock.
Rather than heavily distorted guitars, they more often use acoustic guitar sounds, making their tracks perfect as relaxed, weekend-listening BGM.
While they don’t have many pop tunes with catchy choruses, they have an addictive charm like chill-out music that you can casually let wash over you.
Night ViewTOUCHED

Touched shines with a unique brilliance in the Korean music scene.
Formed by graduates of the Department of Applied Music at Seoul Institute of the Arts, this rock band blends elements of pop and ballad around a rock foundation, showcasing a diverse musical identity.
They debuted in 2021 with the EP “Dawn,” and went on to win Mnet’s band survival show “Great Seoul Invasion” in 2022.
Demonstrating their musical excellence, they also achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the first band ever to win the Grand Prize at the Yoo Jae-ha Music Contest in 2020.
In 2022, they expanded their international presence by performing at OCTOPOP 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand.
With a sound that harmonizes power and delicacy and a richly expressive style, Touched is the perfect band for listeners seeking warm, comforting music.
NAN CHUNSe So Neon

Se So Neon is a rock band from Seoul.
The three-member group is so popular that even Ryuichi Sakamoto, the renowned Japanese musician, went all the way to Korea to see them perform.
In particular, the gentle voice of the band’s female vocalist-guitarist, Se So Neon, stands out on songs like one of their signature tracks, “난춘 (NAN CHUN).” Their music has an irresistible alternative sound you won’t find in commercial rock.
If you like indie rock or alternative rock, definitely give them a listen!
National Police Sh!tDrinking Boys and Girls Choir

Hailing from Daegu, South Korea, the punk band Drinking Boys And Girls Choir has earned international acclaim for their exhilarating sound that fuses skate punk with power pop.
Formed in 2013, they debuted in 2015 with the EP “We Are.” In 2018, they released their first full-length album, “Keep Drinking,” and garnered attention in 2019 with appearances at SXSW and European music festivals.
Their 2021 album “Marriage License” resonated widely for its socially conscious themes addressing LGBTQ+ rights and gender equality, receiving high praise from numerous media outlets.
In 2024, they successfully completed a North American tour.
Blending social messages with high-energy musicianship, their music is highly recommended for fans of pop punk and the DIY ethos.
I’m the bestBebop

Bebop is a girl pop band that captivates Korean men.
The group was formed by former idols who left their respective idol groups.
For a time, the drummer A-yeon drew international attention for her striking looks.
But their appeal goes beyond appearances.
Their musicality is quite authentic, and their performance skills have improved with each passing year.
One of their key attractions is a sound that blends the catchy elements of K-pop with the gritty edge of rock ’n’ roll.
Today, The Day of Separation3rd Line Butterfly

3rd Line Butterfly is a South Korean rock band formed in 1999.
While they specialize in alternative rock and noise rock, they also carry a vibe reminiscent of dream pop and indie rock—a band you might call “tastefully refined.” Many of their songs are built around ethereal tones, but “Today, The Day of Separation” stands out above the rest.
It crafts a uniquely complete world, like watching a short film, with an exceptionally high level of artistry.
Ritual DanceChudahye Chagis

In this ranking, we’ve been introducing catchy bands that are popular in South Korea, but now I’d like to present a truly world-class band.
That is Chudahye Chagis.
Their highly distinctive sound—blending traditional Korean folk music with neo-soul—is compelling, and they’re currently drawing attention from critics worldwide.
To be honest, among all the bands featured in this article, this group’s sense of style is head and shoulders above the rest, so if you closely follow Western music, this is a must-listen!
Beyond the NightsOurR

OurR, a three-piece band, captivates with their artistic songs.
Tracks with deeply developed motifs—like “Beyond the Nights,” themed around insomnia, and its contrasting counterpart “Pattern”—are standout recommendations.
Above all, the piercingly emotive melodies crafted by guitarist-vocalist Dahe are the band’s signature.
Their range spans from dark to pop, but they particularly excel at ethereal, dreamlike pieces.
If you enjoy that kind of sound, they’re well worth checking out.
스물다섯, 스물하나JAURIM

JAURIM is a Korean rock band that has been active at the forefront from the late 1990s to the present.
They’re generally described as a rock band, but, much like in Japan’s music scene, Korea sometimes introduces artists as rock bands even when their music falls outside strict rock genres.
Their sound is basically pop music with a gentle touch of alternative rock.
The vocalist, Kim Yuna, is highly skilled, so pay special attention to the soaring final chorus of ‘스물다섯, 스물하나’ (Twenty-Five, Twenty-One).
