Whimsical Romanticikimonogakari

Whimsical Romanticikimonogakari

A must-have song when you want to get the crowd going.

Ikimonogakari’s “Kimagure Romantic” was the theme song for the 2008 Fuji TV drama “Celeb to Binbo Taro.” The music video starts off with a Famicom-style vibe and it’s super cute! It’s up-tempo, so energy matters, but I think the people singing with you at karaoke will join in too! For example, even if you think you’re tone-deaf, you can pretty much power through it on momentum.

The notes can be a bit high in chest voice, so don’t hesitate—project your voice boldly and far.

If you don’t try too hard and just have fun singing, your pitch will fall into place!

Q / tenjoōbachi

Queen Bee 'Q / Ten' Official Live Clip
Q / tenjoōbachi

Queen Bee radiates a singular presence with their original worldview and visuals.

The title track of their 2017 album Q and the title track of their 2019 album Ten function as mirror images that reveal the band’s polar extremes.

The former is a song with bleak lyrics that evoke abuse, symbolizing the resolve to rise from it.

The latter is a magnificent, strings-centered ballad that depicts escaping an abusive home and, though worn down, striving to live—sad yet brimming with hope.

Performed back-to-back during their audience-free livestream in 2020, the two songs vividly highlighted contrasts—attack and defense, light and shadow.

While each stands independently as a single track, they are often performed as a pair live, and their lyrics are clearly connected; thus, I’ve chosen to present them here as a single work.

lip service; idealistic talk; sugarcoatingOka Yuuko

Kireigoto is a single released in October 2025—an enka piece that powerfully portrays the dual nature of a woman’s heart.

Sung by veteran artist Yuko Oka from Saga Prefecture and released by King Records, the song features an all-star creative team: Kyosuke Kuni, Akihito Shikata, and Norio Ito.

It expresses the wavering emotions of a woman who moves between goddess and demoness, carried by a classic enka melody.

Highly recommended for those who enjoy elegant, woman-centered enka and for anyone looking for a satisfying karaoke number.

A Dangerous Pairsawada kenji

Released in April 1973, this was Kenji Sawada’s sixth single and a landmark work that earned him his first No.

1 on the Oricon chart as a solo artist.

Kazumi Yasui’s lyrics weave in a forbidden-feeling relationship between an older woman and a younger man, expressing an unrelenting, earnest longing—unable to give up even after a farewell—in urbane language.

Osamu Shoji’s arrangement masterfully fuses the sharp edge of rock with the sweetness of kayō, with strings layered over a tight rhythm to evoke a scent of transgression.

Sawada’s sultry vocals unleash their allure in the chorus, leaping from low to high notes and embodying the thrill of a precarious romance.

Winner of the Popularity Awards at both the 1973 Japan Kayo Awards and the Japan Record Awards, this piece stands as a monumental example of Showa-era kayō rock that sings of adult love.

By your sideMirei Touyama

Mirei Touyama “By Your Side”
By your side Mirei Toyama

It’s a ballad that carefully expresses sincere gratitude and love for someone precious who’s always by your side.

It’s a song by Mirei Toyama, released in November 2016.

Chosen as a recommended track on TV Tokyo’s music program “Cho-Ryuha,” it was aired for about a month.

The gentle sound of piano and strings blends with Toyama’s warm vocals, creating a comforting feeling that seems to untie your heart just by listening.

The lyrics, which let go of bashfulness and evasiveness to convey feelings straightforwardly, are sure to move you.

It’s the perfect song for when you want to say a heartfelt “thank you” that you don’t usually express.

Your TraceMomoiro Kurōbā Zetto

Released in July 2011, this is a quiet ballad included on Momoiro Clover Z’s album “Battle and Romance.” Its clear, piano-led melody seeps gently into the heart.

Lyrics and composition are by Shinya Tada, with arrangement by Magokoro Ikuta.

The song portrays feelings for a beloved person who is setting off, and the lingering pain of a farewell that won’t fade.

Alongside everyday scenes like rain and umbrellas, it captures the aching sense of emotions that went unspoken, remaining as “traces” on the heart.

The members’ sincere vocals deliver the emotion just as it is, making tears well up before you know it.

Born during a turning point for the group, this track remains a signature song on the acclaimed album that won the 2012 CD Shop Award, and it continues to be sung today.

It will resonate deeply with anyone who has parted ways with a friend or seen someone dear off on their journey.
