Recommended sea songs for children: Popular Japanese songs related to the ocean

We’d like to introduce songs for children themed around the ocean, as well as songs related to the sea.

This time, instead of nursery rhymes, we’ve focused on Japanese pop songs—mainly popular anime tunes for kids and famous tracks that most people have heard at least once.

They’re all perfect for summer, so try playing them as background music for a family drive or camping trip, or as motivational songs when you want to give your best in studying, club activities, or lessons.

They’re also great for dance numbers and karaoke.

There are plenty of songs that will lift your spirits!

E.G. summer RIDERE-girls

When it comes to a girl group that has it all—singing, dancing, and looks—E-girls definitely come to mind.

With sharp, intense, high-level dance techniques and clear, pure vocals, they cover a wide range from pop tunes to ballads.

E.G.

summer RIDER is a pop, hype summer song made with the season in mind! In love, summer lets both the heart and body feel more free, so there are plenty of chances to go out and have fun with someone you like.

That’s exactly when this lively track is the perfect match to listen to.

SUMMER SONGYUI

YUI 『Summer Song-short ver.-』
SUMMER SONGYUI

YUI’s “Summer Song” is a must-listen for students.

Above all, its catchy, pop-infused chorus really stands out.

Combined with YUI’s gentle, refreshing voice, that poppy hook evokes a sense of fun and the excitement of summer vacation just around the corner.

And when it comes to a student’s summer, it’s all about the beach—just like the line in the chorus inviting friends to the sea, which overflows with youthful spirit.

For adults, it also carries a warm sense of nostalgia.

It’s a beach song I recommend to both students and grown-ups.

SISTERback number

Back Number’s “SISTER” is their 12th single, released in 2015.

From the intro, it has a very refreshing tone.

Many listeners can probably relate to the lyrics, which face one’s own weaknesses and shortcomings head-on and offer encouragement not to give up.

From the chorus, the song develops with a sense of speed, and the lyrics—depicting the protagonist’s feelings with the kind of driving momentum Back Number excels at—capture the listener’s heart.

With its breezy feel, it’s also a great track to listen to while driving.

Summer Colorsyuzu

Natsuiro – Yuzu (Full)
Summer Colorsyuzu

When it comes to songs packed with summery scenery and a refreshing vibe, I think Yuzu’s “Natsuiro” is a perfect fit.

Ever since its release in 1998, it’s been loved by people of all ages as a classic summer song.

The lyrics are specific and easy to picture, making them easy for children to understand as well.

Musically, the tempo is a bit fast, and the high notes—Yuzu’s specialty—can be challenging at first, but you’ll get used to them by listening and practicing repeatedly.

It’s a catchy tune, so it’s great for the whole family to enjoy together!

Voice of the Seaurashima tarō (kiritani kenta)

"The Voice of the Sea" Full ver. / Urashima Taro (Kenta Kiritani) [Official]
Voice of the Seaurashima tarō (kiritani kenta)

A summer number composed by BEGIN’s Masaru Shimabukuro and sung by actor Kenta Kiritani, who became famous through its commercial jingle.

Its comfortable, simple yet somehow wistful melody and lyrics are moving and leave a deep impression after just one listen.

The Urashima Taro character played by Kenta Kiritani is also very familiar to children, making this a song you’ll want to sing along to on ukulele—or ideally sanshin—and if not, then at karaoke.

Under the SeaDizunī

Under the Sea (The Little Mermaid)
Under the SeaDizunī

Among sea-related songs, the one I most recommend for children is “Under the Sea.” It’s the theme song from the Disney animated film The Little Mermaid and is recognized by a wide range of ages, from kids to adults.

It features many sea-dwelling creatures in a cute, cheerful way, with a fun, tropical vibe to the music.

The song is sung by Sebastian, the crab who appears in the film, and his low, full voice gives it a great musical-theater feel.

Ghost of the SeaYonezu Kenshi

Kenshi Yonezu – Spirits of the Sea
Ghost of the SeaYonezu Kenshi

The sea is such a wonderful place where you can fully enjoy nature, isn’t it? You can admire it from afar, sit on the sandy beach and gaze at the stars as you drift into thought, feel the chill of the water at the shoreline, float along with the waves, or dive beneath them—there are so many ways to experience the sea’s beauty.

A song that sings of that grandeur is Kenshi Yonezu’s “Umi no Yuurei” (Spirits of the Sea).

While many of Yonezu’s songs are catchy to anyone’s ears, this one carries depth and weight.

Within that tone, it earnestly conveys the happiness of being able to meet you.

Since the music video is animated, even children can feel the majesty of the ocean!

In conclusion

We introduced some ocean-themed songs recommended for kids.

Did you find any sea songs you liked? It’s surprising how the same theme of the “sea” can lead to completely different vibes depending on the artist.

If you found a favorite, be sure to listen to it by the seaside or along the coast this summer!
