[Childcare] Playing with Toilet Paper! A Collection of Craft and Play Ideas (11–20)
Hoppy Frog

How about making a springy, hopping frog out of a toilet paper roll—the bouncy motion is addictive! First, paint the toilet paper roll.
Acrylic paint is recommended because once dry, it’s waterproof and less likely to rub off on your hands.
Next, cut slits to create the legs.
If children are making it, draw guide lines to make cutting with scissors easier.
Stick on eyes with stickers and draw the nose and mouth to finish.
You can also expand the play by making a pond or grassy area out of construction paper, or by adapting the craft into other insects like grasshoppers!
Snail made from a paper tube core

Let’s make a snail using a toilet paper roll! You only need one roll, so it’s easy to do at preschools, kindergartens, or at home.
First, cut out the body part.
Next, use the remaining roll to make two loops; roll one of them tightly to create the shell.
Finally, make a slit in the shell piece and attach it to the body to complete the snail.
Draw eyes, a mouth, and shell patterns to make it cute.
It’s a perfect craft idea for rainy days or the rainy season.
paper return

Let’s make a toy with a mysterious mechanism where the colors and pictures change as you turn it! First, cut open a toilet paper roll lengthwise and paste construction paper onto it.
Since the step of attaching the construction paper is a bit tricky for children, it’s recommended that a caregiver/teacher handle this part.
Then let the children freely draw their favorite pictures and play with the toy they made! It’s a unique idea that will spark their curiosity—“How does it work?” Even younger children will likely enjoy staring at it and playing with it over and over.
3D grapes made from toilet paper
Glue purple origami paper onto a toilet paper roll and cut it into 1 cm-wide rings.
On the base, arrange and glue them in four tiers of 4, 3, 2, and 1.
Paint the insides with purple paint.
Attach a stem and leaves cut from construction paper, and your grape cluster is complete.
When attaching the origami paper to the toilet paper roll, be sure to apply glue across the entire sheet so it adheres firmly.
If it’s not well attached, it may peel off when you cut it.
Grapes are typically purple, but it’s fine for children to paint them in whatever color they imagine grapes to be.
Climbing ladybug

Climbing up! Sliding down! A freely moving ladybug is so much fun! Here’s an idea for a climbing ladybug.
For children, ladybugs are familiar insects they see in picture books or on walks, right? This unique idea makes it look like the ladybug is playfully roaming around.
What you’ll need: round magnets, a toilet paper tube, a plastic wrap tube, a half-sphere of Styrofoam, wooden sticks or chopsticks, construction paper, pens, scissors, and double-sided tape.
Give it a try!
Colorful Tulips Made from Scrap Materials
Let me introduce colorful tulips made from upcycled materials using toilet paper rolls.
Prepare toilet paper rolls, paint, brushes, and colored pens.
Draw the shape of a tulip on the toilet paper roll with a pen and cut it out.
If you flatten the roll first, it’s easier to draw the design.
Once you’ve painted the tulips with paint, they’re done! Adding patterns inside the tulips can make them feel even more spring-like.
It’s also a great idea to display them in your room to enjoy the spring atmosphere.
In conclusion
We introduced games that use toilet paper and toilet paper rolls.
Toilet paper is a material familiar to children, and it doesn’t require extra time or money to buy.
Let’s incorporate it into various activities and have fun with the kids.
Feel free to adapt the ideas—enjoy playing a lot!
