[2026] Enka singer from Kyushu
When you become a fan of a particular artist or band, many people naturally start to wonder where the singer or members are from.
If they happen to be from the same place as you, it somehow makes you feel a little happy.
With that in mind, this time I’ve put together an article themed around enka singers from Kyushu.
Speaking of singers from Kyushu, even just looking at Fukuoka Prefecture, it has produced many well-known musicians such as Yosui Inoue, Seiko Matsuda, Hiromi Go, Ayumi Hamasaki, Ringo Sheena, and Masamune Kusano of Spitz.
But what about enka singers—who are they? If you’re curious, be sure to check out the article!

[2026] Enka Singers from Kyushu (11–20)
Once in a dreamKoda Shin

Enka singer Shin Koda, who made his debut with “Otoko Doshi” in 1989, hails from Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture.
In his debut year, he won the New Artist Award at the 31st Japan Record Awards, and in 1994 his hit “Yume Ichido” earned him his first appearance on the 45th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen.
Beyond his work as an enka singer, he was also active on the variety show Quiz! Hexagon, where he was fondly known as a “baka-talent” (lovable airhead).
In 2010, he demonstrated his versatility by becoming the first in the entertainment industry to obtain a Level 1 Tuna Disassembly Master certification.
After retiring, Koda embarked on a new life as a Buddhist monk.
He is a recommended artist not only for enka fans but also for lovers of variety shows.
In conclusion
I was personally surprised to learn that many of the super-famous singers who have made their mark on the history of enka—starting with people like Kiyoshi Hikawa and Aki Yashiro—are from Kyushu! Not just in enka, but with singers in general, their way of life is often reflected in their voice, so learning about their hometowns is really fascinating.
Of course, there are other enka singers from Kyushu besides the ones I introduced this time, so definitely try digging deeper!
