Midwinter Datetenchi mari

Mari Amachi, who was a national idol in the early 1970s.
This song, included as the B-side of the single “Futari no Nichiyoubi,” released in December 1972, warmly depicts lovers intertwining their fingers and snuggling close as a wintry, leafless avenue is swept by a cold wind.
The lyrics are by Michio Yamagami, the music by Masayuki Hirao, and the arrangement by Shunichi Makaino.
The words, which sing of love nurtured in the cold season, combine with Amachi’s clear, transparent voice to evoke a sense of hope amid the poignancy.
Featured on a single that sold about 440,000 copies at the time, the track was also included on the album “Ashita e no Melody” and has continued to be loved by fans.
Give it a listen while imagining a moment spent with someone special on a chilly day.
Marunouchi SadisticShiina Ringo

It’s a stylish, quirky sound with jazz and blues elements, isn’t it? In fact, one of my students who had a limited range and couldn’t hit very high notes practiced this song many times in vocal training.
The overall range isn’t wide and it’s sung mainly in the mid register, but there are a few higher spots in the chorus.
As long as you catch the rhythm and nail the timing there, you’ll be able to sing them smoothly! Since the song is all about rhythm, it’s important to mark the beats clearly—even a bit exaggerated.
If you move with the groove while singing, it helps you relax and keeps you from pushing your voice, so I really want you to lean into the cool vibe.
Also, you’ll probably notice this once you’re in the groove, but be sure to cut off the notes cleanly where needed and give space its due as you sing.
pure whiteFuji Kaze

A song by Fujii Kaze written in February 2025 as a commercial jingle for I LOHAS.
Its breezy sound, woven from a bossa nova-style rhythm and acoustic guitar, portrays a longing for a pure heart and the resolve to say goodbye.
As he wanders in search of truth, casting off the darkness in his heart and being enveloped by a new breeze, the song conveys the importance of embracing growth and change in life.
The raw yet nostalgic sonic texture born from session-style recording questions what it means to keep a heart as clear and transparent as water.
After delivering an overwhelming performance on the 2023 Kohaku, I’d love to see Fujii Kaze perform this much-talked-about commercial tie-in track.
MatatabiWANIMA

WANIMA, a punk-leaning rock band boasting top-tier popularity.
They have many great songs, but the one I especially recommend is “Matatabi.” It’s the theme song for the anime “Night of the Living Cat,” and, for WANIMA, it’s unusually shaped into a pretty hardcore melody.
In the middle of the track, there’s a shout that’s almost like a scream, and it’s one of the most satisfying moments in the song—so if you sing it at karaoke, it’s sure to get the crowd going.
My RevolutionWatanabe Misato

My Revolution, released in 1986.
It was a huge hit especially among people in their 50s, wasn’t it? I’m sure there are many who’d say, “This song is my youth!” It’s easy to get into the rhythm and fun to sing, but the range is wider than you might expect—from E3 to F5—and the pitch span shifts suddenly between the verse, pre-chorus, and chorus, so watch out for that! Right before the chorus, make sure your throat doesn’t close; keep it well open.
If you make a surprised face, your facial muscles lift and your throat opens up, too! Try singing the chorus in that state, focusing on resonance rather than just pushing your voice.
Keep the airflow steady so the inside of your mouth vibrates.
Once you lock into the lively rhythm, it becomes much easier to sing—so go all in and enjoy singing it with energy!
mark with a circleGivun

Sung by Given, this song portrays the anxiety and confusion that come from caring deeply for someone, along with a clumsy yet genuine hope.
Even while carrying a painful past, it affirms the person before you and embraces their imperfections, and that warm affection resonates deeply.
It’s a perfect fit for the loneliness and sentimentality that creep in at the end of autumn.
The track is the ending theme of the TV anime Given, released in September 2019 as the single “Marutsuke / Fuyu no Hanashi,” and later included on the mini-album gift.
Give it a listen when you want to be reminded of how precious someone dear to you is.
Marshmallow FloatSuganami Mirei

Mirei Suganami, who is active as a member of the idol group ≠ME produced by Rino Sashihara, is from Iwaki City in Fukushima Prefecture.
After entering university, she set her sights on becoming an idol and began her activities with ≠ME in 2019.
Within the group, she shines as an all-rounder who supports performances with both singing and dancing.
In 2023, she was also selected as a regular model for the women’s fashion magazine bis, showcasing her talents in multiple fields.
She is known for her strong love for her hometown and expressed her passion in a local newspaper, saying, “I absolutely want to hold a live show in Iwaki.” During the 2024 national tour, they held a performance in Koriyama, achieving her long-awaited homecoming.
Her earnest demeanor and bright smile are part of her charm, so be sure to keep an eye on her future activities.
