Magic with Money: Party-Pleasing Tricks and Performances (31–40)
Coin change (1-yen → 10-yen)
This is a coin change magic trick that cleverly uses blind spots.
You start by showing a single 1-yen coin, but in an instant it transforms into two 10-yen coins.
In fact, the two 10-yen coins are hidden horizontally behind the 1-yen coin.
When you make the change, you use your thumb to push the 1-yen coin and conceal it by stacking it behind the 10-yen coins.
When performing this trick, it’s important to be mindful of your angles and to practice repeatedly in front of a mirror so you can switch the coins smoothly.
Teleportation of a coin using the Han Ping Chien move
Do you know the Han Ping Chien move? It’s a technique that makes it look like you’re placing multiple coins down when in fact you’re not.
The first thing you need is the thumb palm.
The thumb palm is a technique for concealing a coin with your thumb.
First, grab two coins and thumb palm them as is.
Then you pretend to pass them to the other hand, but you don’t actually transfer them.
At that moment, producing the sound of coins clinking is the key to the Han Ping Chien move.

It’s a magic trick where, on cue, a five-yen coin placed on the lower part of a rubber band moves upward on its own.
The key points are exactly where you grip the rubber band and the delicate, undetectable motion that keeps spectators from noticing you’re moving it.
Instead of holding one end of the band, you pinch it somewhere along its length, then cover it with your palm to make it look like you’re holding the end.
After that, gently relax your grip to gradually release the band; as the band is released, the five-yen coin moves upward.
Make sure to focus on easing your grip little by little and evenly so the motion doesn’t look unnatural.
Vanish and Reappearance of Three Coins
It’s a magic trick where you seem to place coins one by one into your hand, they vanish, and then you produce the three vanished coins.
You only pretend to put the coin in, while secretly keeping it in the other hand, and you manage the angles so the retention isn’t detected.
The last coin is vanished using a Wilson Palm, instantly clipping it with the index finger—doing that clipping action with each hand simultaneously is the tricky part.
After that, reveal the hidden coins in sequence, paying attention to the angles of your fingers and wrists as you go.
A cigarette pierces a 100-yen coin
It’s a magic trick where you appear to push a cigarette through the center of a coin.
The cigarette has a gimmick: a magnet-attached extension piece for the tip and a colored film in the filter that can slide.
By operating these smoothly, it looks like the cigarette penetrates the coin.
The routine is to attach the extension piece (which you’ve been palming) as you press the tip against the coin, then hide the extended tip while slowly moving the filter so it appears the cigarette is sinking into the coin.
Finally, by holding it in a way that conceals the filter’s movement, you show the tip as if it’s passed through—trick complete.
Be sure to reverse the steps cleanly to restore everything to a normal-looking state.
Since the gimmick is on the cigarette side, performing it with a borrowed coin is also recommended.

Coin Transformation Magic
The coin swaps in an instant! Here’s an idea for a coin transformation magic trick.
Anyone would be surprised if the coin in your hand suddenly turned into a completely different one.
This trick is simple and easy to understand, so it’s recommended for beginners.
You’ll need a 500-yen coin, a 10-yen coin, a thin rubber string, duct tape, and scissors.
Using coins that differ in color and size makes the switch easier to notice.

A magic trick where a bill passes through a spoon
It’s a magic trick where you sharply strike the crease of a folded bill with a spoon, the spoon appears to pierce through the bill, but when you remove the spoon and unfold the bill, it’s back to normal.
You prepare two spoons, hold them slightly offset so the back spoon sticks out, and place the folded bill between them.
By pressing the front spoon against the inside of the crease, the back spoon sticks out farther and becomes visible first, making it look as though it pierced the bill.
To avoid revealing that you’re holding two spoons, it’s best to use plain, flat spoons with minimal decoration.
