Mr.Children’s classic song “CANDY,” included on the acclaimed 2005 album “I♡U.” This piece is characterized by a fairly wide vocal range of mid1 C# to hi B, with the highest chest note at hi A.

Although that note doesn’t appear often, it comes up once in each pre-modulation chorus, so before singing, be sure to focus on diaphragmatic breathing and conscious breath control.

If you’re confident in your upper range, it might be interesting to challenge yourself by singing the post-modulation hi B not in falsetto but with a mixed voice.

While depicting the emotions stirred by the global situation and conflicts of the time, this song also juxtaposes them with the everyday and the ordinary, resulting in a work with a powerful message.

It is imbued with a searing desire to seek mutual understanding despite differing values and principles.

It won Song of the Year at the 18th Japan Gold Disc Awards.

It’s a super up-tempo song that has become a staple at live shows.

Also, when performed live, there’s often an action suggestive of masturbation during the second verse’s B-melody line, ‘alone again tonight,’ making it a track that shines particularly in concert.

It depicts the lewd side of human nature through various expressions.

At the time, the vocalist Kazutoshi Sakurai said he was “suffering quite a lot mentally” due to personal issues, and that background is deeply reflected in the strong sense of pessimism and impermanence.

He also mentioned being influenced by Osamu Tezuka’s Buddha, by the so-called ‘God of Manga.’

This is a song created in hopes of supporting recovery from the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.

Set to a slow melody, the lyrics—mostly written in hiragana—convey a gentle, embracing warmth.

For those whose everyday lives were taken by the disaster and who cannot yet see the light ahead, this song may itself feel like that very “light.” The fact that its proceeds are donated as relief funds also reflects their strong commitment to the region’s recovery.

Losing something precious makes everything feel hateful and meaningless.

I really related to the part about truly wanting to meet again, yet hating yourself for hiding that feeling.

I know it’s important to be honest with myself, but I’m frustrated that I can’t be.

What on earth is getting in the way?

At concerts, it was a staple song that, up through the “Mr.Children HOME TOUR 2007,” was always performed without fail together with “overture.” In the tour concerts after the earthquake, it was moved to replace the original first song on the set list, and “Sosei” was performed.

It is also used as the walk-up song for Ginji of the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles.
