Hit and popular songs by My Little Lover

Here’s a song by My Little Lover, which is now the solo project of akko, who serves as the vocalist.

When the group first formed, they were a trio with official members on guitar and keyboards.

At that time, the keyboardist was Takeshi Kobayashi, who now also produces Mr.

Children, and My Little Lover’s music was hugely popular from their debut.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or a first-time listener, please take your time and give it a careful listen.

My Little Lover’s classic and popular songs (31–40)

SurvivalMairitoru Rabā

Released on September 4, 2002.

This was the first single after member Fujii left, leaving akko and Takeshi Kobayashi as a duo.

It showcased their continued vitality with a light, quintessential My Little Lover pop sound that occasionally evokes poignancy and loneliness.

It peaked at No.

23 and sold 11,000 copies.

Love Song? Swallowtail Butterfly?Mairitoru Rabā

Included in the best-of album released in December 2001.

A cover of YEN TOWN BAND’s “Swallowtail Butterfly (Ai no Uta),” the theme song of the film Swallowtail.

Perhaps due to the connection that their single “YES (free flower)” was featured in the same film, this became their first cover in five years.

Akko’s vocals are a must-hear, offering a different feel from CHARA.

Under the skyMairitoru Rabā

Released on January 21, 1998.

It’s a refreshing song, just as the title suggests.

It was used in a Nissan Wingroad commercial.

Although the season is different, it evokes an image of a clear, cloudless sky like “Shiroi Kite” and “Shuffle.” It peaked at No.

6 and sold 119,000 copies.

Afterwards, in March, the second album “PRESENTS” was released, and this served as its lead single.

ANIMAL LIFEMairitoru Rabā

Released on June 25, 1997.

Credited as MY LITTLE LOVER featuring AKKO.

I wonder if the “featuring” credit was a trend around that time.

In the music video, three women who look like Akko appear with the same hairstyles and outfits.

The guitar is prominent; the tempo is slow but it has a rock feel.

The previous year, Akko and Takeshi Kobayashi got married, and the group went on a brief hiatus for childbirth, but this single was released about six months later as they resumed activities.

It peaked at No.

5 and sold 223,000 copies.

CRAZY LOVEMairitoru Rabā

Released on July 23, 1998 (Heisei 10).

Among their past singles, it’s an upbeat, bright song that conveys a sense of speed like “Shuffle.” It was used as the CM song for Kirin’s green tea beverage, and akko appeared in the early commercials.

It peaked at No.

11 and sold 76,000 copies.

My Little Lover’s classic and popular songs (41–50)

shooting star? “Shooting star”?Mairitoru Rabā

Released on February 28, 2001.

This was the first single in three years following a hiatus.

A medium-tempo love song created after the birth of her second child.

It was the theme song for the Nippon TV drama “FACE,” but peaked at No.

13 and sold 58,000 copies.

The WatersMairitoru Rabā

The title track from the concept album “The Waters,” released in December 1998.

They would go on hiatus after this, and it feels like they wanted to try a lot of things before the break—the album is packed with experimental elements.

The title track “The Waters” is intriguing too, retaining a My Little Lover-like feel while also featuring some uncharacteristic aspects.
