It’s no exaggeration to say that Vocaloid grew up alongside internet culture.
Sparked by the release of the MEIKO library in 2004, countless masterpieces have continued to be created up to the present day.
Especially after Hatsune Miku’s debut in 2007, there are surely people who devoted their entire youth to the explosive Vocaloid boom centered on Niconico Douga.
In this article, we’ve put together a collection of nostalgic Vocaloid songs that helped shape that scene.
It’s a playlist perfect for diving into memories or discovering something new!

[Memories] A roundup of nostalgic and classic popular Vocaloid songs (41–50)
Fire◎Flowerhalyosy

It’s a sweet-and-sour love song that overlays budding feelings with fireworks blooming grandly and fading into the night sky.
The track was created by halyosy, also known as the creator of the famous Vocaloid graduation song “Sakura no Ame,” and was released in 2008.
The way it shifts from a quiet intro to a dramatic band sound is great, isn’t it? It feels like that sound expresses the protagonist’s wavering emotions.
The lyrics flow so nicely that it feels great to sing at karaoke!
Servant of Evilmothy

The gothic tone and storyline-driven lyrics really grab me! It’s a track by mothy, also known as Aku no P, released in 2008.
It’s one of the works in the series known as the “Aku no Series,” which continued afterward.
The mature-sounding arrangement paired with Kagamine Len’s boyish vocals is such a perfect match that you can’t help but get absorbed.
It even feels like a musical unfolding right before your eyes.
Since it’s a different perspective—an answer song—to “Daughter of Evil,” I recommend listening to them together.
The White Snow Princessnoboru↑P

It’s a grand, fast-paced rock number based on the world-famous classic Snow White.
The song was created by Vocaloid producer Noboru↑, also known for Love Surely Soars☆ and Monochrome ∞ Blue Sky, and was released in February 2010.
The dynamic soundscape pairs perfectly with Miku’s solid, focused vocals.
It packs a variety of charms—cuteness, coolness, and drama.
However, when you delve into the lyrics’ implications, there’s also a touch of eeriness.
It’s a Vocaloid track you can enjoy from multiple angles.
Cowardly Mont BlancDECO*27

Even though we were supposed to be in love, somehow our feelings drifted apart before we knew it… I bet some of you have experienced a romance like that.
This song is by DECO*27, a Vocaloid producer who has continually released numerous hits such as “Vampire,” and it was released in 2010.
Speaking of DECO*27, their style is a kind of mixture rock that layers synth phrases over a band sound, and even back then it was already firmly established! Another appeal is the lyrical worldview that’s sure to resonate with teens of any era!
ParadichlorobenzeneOwata P

I’m overwhelmed by the surging melodic line.
This track, released in 2009, is by the Vocaloid producer Owata-P, also known for “Turkish March – Owata (\(^o^)/)” and “Rin-chan Now!” The cryptic lyrics, themed around the chemical substance paradichlorobenzene, seem to reflect some inescapable, urgent emotion.
The frenzied musical style that faithfully traces that message is also striking.
If you haven’t listened to it, be sure to check out the answer song “Antichlorobenzene” as well.
Butterfly on the Right Shouldernori P
A very cool Vocaloid track that lets you savor the so-called “Komuro sound”! It’s a signature work by Vocaloid producer Nori-P, released in 2009.
The stylish electronic sound pairs perfectly with Rin’s crisp vocals—just following the sound alone is a joy.
However, the lyrics depict a precarious and bittersweet romance…
The video introduced here features Kagamine Rin’s vocals, but a version sung by Len was released later as well.
Be sure to compare the two!
Cherry Blossom Rainhalyosy

It’s famous as a Vocaloid graduation song, isn’t it? It’s a piece released in 2008 by the Vocaloid producer halyosy.
The lyrics carry the message that even if we’re far apart, we’re still connected in our hearts—it’s enough to make you cry.
The gentle tones of acoustic guitar, piano, and strings are moving as well.
Some people may have even sung this song at their actual graduation ceremonies back then.
Take some time to listen to it again while reminiscing about your own school days.
