[Memories] A roundup of nostalgic and classic popular Vocaloid songs (41–50)
Patchwork Staccatotoa

The work that expanded the popularity of the Vocaloid producer Toa was their 14th piece, Tsugihagi Staccato, released in 2014, which was one of the tracks distributed as part of the 7th anniversary project for Hatsune Miku.
It surpassed 100,000 views on Niconico and entered the Hall of Fame, and in 2016 it achieved a million views.
The “staccato” in the title refers to playing notes in a short, detached manner, which creates a distinctive sound throughout the song.
The lyrics, which sing of an unrequited love that bears no fruit, evoke a heartrending feeling as you listen.
It’s a perfect number to play on a lonely night.

meltdowniroha

Futuristic, fantastical, and skillfully depicting a mental world, this Vocaloid track has real depth.
Created by Vocaloid producer iroha and released in 2008, it’s a very stylish electronic tune where an understated melody shines over a beat that carries hints of drum’n’bass.
The lyrics, which question the meaning of one’s own existence, are another of its charms.
I imagine there are people who, after listening to “Roshin Yuukai,” discovered the joy of analyzing music to appreciate it.
Double LariatAgo aniki

I bet there were people who tried copying it and went around in circles, right? It’s a signature song by Agoaniki, a Vocaloid producer who’s also active in a band, released in 2009.
Along with the song’s quality, the MV— which kept moving even if you pressed the stop button—became a hot topic (it no longer works now that Adobe Flash Player is no longer supported).
The lyrics, “Even though it felt like I was going around in circles, by working hard I suddenly found myself in a high place,” are truly encouraging, aren’t they?
Calc.Jimii Samu P

This is a Vocaloid song that gently stays by your side in the sorrow of heartbreak.
Created by JimmyThumb-P, a Vocaloid producer known for numerous hits like “from Y to Y,” it was released in September 2010.
The unforgettable parting is sung over a fast-paced band sound, resulting in something that really pierces the heart.
Before you know it, you end up empathizing with the protagonist and feeling tears well up.
Many popular singers have covered it, so if you’re interested, be sure to browse the videos.
Online Game Addict Sprechchorsatsuki ga tenkomori

A Vocaloid track born from the internet age, sung over a drum’n’bass beat about the lifestyle of an online gaming addict.
It’s a signature work by Vocaloid producer Satsuki ga Tenkomori, released in October 2010.
A rearranged version was published in 2022 and drew attention.
It’s got a strong “hardcore grinder” vibe—real, in a way—and if you’ve been into PC gaming for a long time, you might find parts of the lyrics particularly relatable.
Tokarev and the Girlmochiibe P

Get hooked and never want to escape! “Tokarev and the Girl” by Mochi-be P is a Hatsune Miku track released in September 2009.
Centered on guitar sounds, it’s a cool song whose charm lies in the contrast with Miku’s cute voice.
The lyrics, set in a city nightscape, vividly portray a girl about to step into a dangerous world—leaving a strong impression.
How about savoring a touch of the extraordinary through music?
Matryoshkahachi

Hachi, a Vocaloid producer who also performs as singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu, garnered attention online with highly original, addictive tracks.
Among his songs, a top recommendation is “Matryoshka.” It was included on his 2010 self-produced release “OFFICIAL ORANGE.” The track delivers a sharp, dynamic band sound, and the humorous choral interplay between Hatsune Miku and GUMI is a highlight.
It’s an upbeat tune that went on to have a major impact on the later Vocaloid scene.
