I’m Hiyoko-sensei, a former nursery school teacher from Hyogo Prefecture. Ever since I was five, my dream was to become a childcare worker, and before I knew it, 20 years had passed since I achieved that dream. Here, we introduce craft ideas recommended for one-year-olds in November.

We’ve gathered many ideas that incorporate autumn-themed motifs like acorns, fallen leaves, mushrooms, and red dragonflies.

We also introduce fun techniques that boost one-year-olds’ “I want to try it!” spirit, as well as activities that make use of materials offering a variety of textures.

Let’s decorate the room in autumn colors! Here’s an idea for a gently swaying bagworm wreath.

You’ll need a paper plate, tissue paper, tape, construction paper, stickers, and thread.

Use colorful tissue paper inspired by autumn leaves to make your own unique wreath! As you create it, ask questions about the order of placing the tissue paper and autumn-themed pieces—this helps children express their creativity.

Displaying the finished wreath in the room lets you feel the children’s growth.

Daruma made with children’s handprints are so cute! Here’s how to make a Shichi-Go-San Chitose-ame candy bag.

You’ll need construction paper, paint, pens, and stickers.

After stamping paint over the entire bag, attach a Daruma made from the child’s handprint.

When stamping the paint, it’s helpful to use tools that are easy for small hands to grip.
