Craft ideas for 2-year-olds! A cute collection of creations to enjoy October events

Here are some craft ideas you can enjoy with two-year-olds in October! From creations using autumn natural materials like nuts and fallen leaves to cute Halloween-themed projects, we’ve gathered wonderful activities bursting with children’s excitement.

There are also activities that let them enjoy textures, such as finger stamping and playing with paint.

While valuing children’s “I want to try!” spirit, nurture their rich expressive abilities through seasonal crafts! Because we’re introducing ideas that foster children’s free expression, we use the term “seisaku” (production/craft-making) in the main text.

Making a bento with origami and construction paper

When the heat subsides and a refreshing breeze starts to blow around October, it makes you want to pack a lunch and go on a picnic, doesn’t it? If you want to get into that picnic mood right away, we recommend making a bento using origami and construction paper.

Cut construction paper into the shape of a bento box, then keep adding menu items made from origami and construction paper on top.

Simple origami with few steps, or items that can be made just by rolling paper, can be done by the children, while the teacher can handle cutting out the more complex shapes.

Once the menu is ready, consult with the children to arrange everything in the bento box—and it’s complete! Try making it while imagining, “This is the kind of bento I’d like to bring to our next picnic.”

Autumn fruits with balloon stamps

Let’s use balloons like stamps to make delicious autumn fruits! On white drawing paper, dab paint onto the paper using a paint-covered balloon.

Once the paint dries, cut the paper into the shapes of your favorite fruits to match the paint colors.

Prepare separate paper to make stems and leaves, then combine them with the fruit shapes to finish! Have the children do the balloon stamping, and let the teacher handle any tasks that involve using scissors.

Wobbling bagworm

[Kindergarten/Daycare] Let’s Make Handprint Stamps! October Swaying Bagworm Craft
Wobbling bagworm

Bagworms are moth larvae that use silk from their mouths to tie together dead leaves and twigs to make a protective case (mino) that shields their bodies from autumn through winter.

To make this bagworm craft, use three paint colors to make handprints on paper; once the paint dries, cut out the handprints.

Paste the three handprints together to form the case, and finish by attaching the bagworm’s face.

If you glue yarn to the back and hang it from the ceiling or another high spot, the bagworm will sway adorably! The size of each child’s hand changes the shape of the case, so it’s a fun project where every bagworm turns out differently.

Good music – neguse.

When you think of autumn’s appetite, many people might think of baked sweet potatoes.

Here’s a perfect craft for 2-year-olds in the fall! You’ll need construction paper, glue, and brown drawing tools like colored pencils.

First, draw some char marks with the brown pencils on a piece of construction paper cut into the shape of a baked sweet potato.

Next, tear another piece of construction paper to make the potato skin.

Apply glue to the skin pieces and stick them on top of the potato to finish! It’s also cute to collect fallen leaves and glue them around the potato as decoration.

Making animals with fallen leaves

Making animals out of fallen leaves is fun, too.

I’ll walk you through the basic steps.

First, use construction paper to create motifs like the animal’s face.

Then hand those to the children together with fallen leaves, and let them freely create the body.

For example, for a lion, you can arrange leaves around the face to suggest the mane.

Beyond lions, prepare various creatures and enjoy the activity together! By the way, animals that pair especially well with fallen leaves include bagworms and hedgehogs.

Bear wreath

Here’s a fun autumn craft perfect for 2-year-olds! It’s a super cute bear-themed fall wreath.

You’ll need autumn-colored construction paper, a bear illustration, glue, double-sided tape, and yarn.

First, cut the colored paper into strips about 5 cm wide.

Make the strips into loops and create eight of them.

Thread the yarn through the loops to connect them, and once they’re all threaded, tie the ends of the yarn together to secure it.

Make sure the yarn forms a loop so you can hang the wreath.

Finally, stick the bear’s face on with double-sided tape, and you’re done! Older kids can also enjoy drawing the bear’s face themselves.

Super easy! Fox face

Super easy! Fox face

This is a way to fold a fox face in just five folds.

First, fold the paper in half along the diagonal to make a triangle.

Next, fold so that the two 45-degree corners meet, creating a crease.

Then, fold so that the 90-degree corner aligns with the point where the crease intersects the base.

Finally, fold each of the 45-degree corners upward, and you’re done.

Turn it face up and draw the fox’s face.

With no complicated steps and only a few folds, this is an easy origami project to try.
