Blue BookmarkGalileo Galilei

This song was used as the opening theme for “Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day.” Perhaps due to the anime’s bittersweet tone, it’s strongly associated with a sense of sadness.
Even so, its gentle melody and lyrics make it a song that truly warms the heart.
The bittersweet yet warm, fluffy feeling you’re left with after listening is wonderfully comforting.
Ballad of a SingerSaitō Kazuyoshi

It’s a song that touches the tearful, tender part of the heart.
You can sense the influence of the Beatles he so admires in the chord progressions and the performance.
With that as the foundation, it builds a unique world you could call Saito Kazuyoshi’s own.
tear(s)Marushii

A love ballad that portrays the ache of heartbreak in stark contrast to the dazzling summer sun.
It’s a work released in August 2025 by the rock band Marcy, known for down-to-earth lyrics that resonate.
Memories of love told in the past tense and words detailing feelings that will never reach their destination shake the listener’s heart.
Skillful metaphors—like the pain of memories lingering as sensations in the body and a future that was never opened—reflect the protagonist’s earnest emotions and are sure to bring tears.
The song is slated to be included on their third original album, set for release in November 2025, which will also feature Aozora, the theme song for the film “Youth Gestalt Collapse.” It’s a track you’ll want to listen to quietly on nights when you want to immerse yourself in unforgettable memories of love.
Teenage BlueT-BOLAN

T-BOLAN is known for countless great ballads, but there are hidden gems among their single B-sides as well.
This track is a rock ballad that portrays the uniquely bittersweet inner landscape of adolescence, swaying between adulthood and childhood.
The inexpressible frustration and loneliness are rendered with painful realism by the fusion of Arashi Moritomo’s passionate vocals and the band’s weighty sound.
Released as the B-side to the single “JUST ILLUSION” in February 1992, the song also had an acoustic version included on an album.
On nights when you’re sunk in a sense of futility, let this song’s burning melody gently stay by your side and move your heart.
Pointillism Song (feat. Sonoko Inoue)Mrs. GREEN APPLE

Mrs.
GREEN APPLE captivates listeners with their overwhelming expressive power.
This song, included on their single “Ao to Natsu” released in August 2018, was produced with singer-songwriter Sonoko Inoue.
As an insert track for the film “Aonatsu: Kimi ni Koi Shita 30-nichi,” it depicts the story of a man and a woman sensing an impending farewell at summer’s end.
The swelling emotions despite knowing time is limited, and the frustration of being unable to hold hands, are conveyed achingly through their two voices.
You can almost see memories piling up like scattered points before your eyes.
When you’re troubled by a love that can’t be, or on a sentimental night, listening to it will gently stay close to that helpless feeling.
SolaninASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION

This song was used as the theme song for the film Solanin.
The lyrics were written by the manga artist Inio Asano.
In the story, it’s performed by the protagonist, Meiko.
Thinking about Meiko’s situation and feelings makes it very heartrending; the song conveys a sense of contradiction and inner conflict.

Little SparklesChatmonchy

From the sparkling feel of the intro to the wistful lyrics and melody of the chorus, it’s a song that’s both adorable and heartrending.
I love Chatmonchy’s sensibility in calling the small yet undeniably real feelings of love within oneself a little sparkle.
