Crystal Kay is a female singer who earns high praise from critics for her powerful vocals and sophisticated musical sensibilities.

While her early work centered on R&B, she’s recently been exploring Black music styles like trap and neo-soul.

Among her songs, the one I especially recommend is Eternal Memories.

Rather than a straightforward expression of gratitude to her parents, the lyrics feel more like she’s reexamining the parts of herself that couldn’t be honest in the past.

Paired with the melody, it all comes together to create a highly dreamlike atmosphere.

Slow Heights and the Sun is a four-piece rock band from Nagoya.

They’re known for having many songs based on member Fuma Shimizu’s personal experiences, and they consistently draw attention with unembellished, realistic lyrics.

Among their works, one I especially recommend as a song of gratitude to parents is 1960.

It’s filled with words as warm as any parent could hope to hear—saying that even if they were reborn, they’d want to be born to the same parents.

How about gifting this song along with your parents’ birthdays or their milestone celebrations?

This is “Kāchan” with composition by Fragment and lyrics by Shingate.

It’s a message song addressed to the artist’s mother, who has fallen ill, expressing gratitude and respect up to now, and speaking about how he will live from here on.

It’s a sad yet gentle song.

Dadhiiragi

This is a song by Hiiragi, a folk band from Hokkaido.

Released in 2013 as their 10th single, it’s a song expressing gratitude to a father.

The music video, which features scenes from a wedding, paired with the song, tightens your chest with emotion.

Letter: To My Mothermic-alone

If you want to express your gratitude to a mother who always supports you, “Letter ~To Mom~” is the perfect choice.

This ballad by the four-member harmony group mic-alone is sung like reading a letter, conveying deep appreciation to one’s mother and regret for the trouble caused during rebellious years.

Its straightforward expression of feelings makes it all the more likely to resonate.

The grand, expansive harmonies are also a highlight.

This is “A Little Path Where Crimson Deigo Bloom” by Yuko Narusoko, an artist from Okinawa Prefecture.

She studied piano from a young age, graduated from Musashino Academia Musicae, and her career appears smooth and successful at first glance.

Yet in this song she talks about how difficult it is to dream, and how she once squandered money given by her parents on having fun.

Even so, her parents worried about her and supported her… It is, without a doubt, a masterpiece.

Thank You Mamaberii guddoman

This song features a warm, heartfelt melody that conveys love and gratitude to mothers in a straightforward way.

Each of the three members delivers an emotional solo part, expressing feelings for “Mom” from various perspectives—such as from a child to a mother, and from a husband to a wife.

It gently portrays mothers who devote themselves to their families and the appreciation that’s hard to express in everyday life, resulting in a piece that resonates with listeners.

Included on the album “Thank You,” the song was released in February 2025.

The album, celebrating the 11th anniversary of Berry Goodman’s formation, also includes the Hanshin Koshien Stadium 100th Anniversary support song and a tie-in track for NHK’s “Minna no Uta.” It’s a perfect song to gift with carnations for Mother’s Day or whenever you want to express your gratitude.
