Strider

First Strider Riding Lesson Vol. 1: Sit on the Seat and Try Walking [STRIDER TV #13]
Strider

There was a time when people thought two-wheeled bikes were dangerous for small children.

Back then, tricycles and bicycles with training wheels were popular.

However, these days Striders are becoming the standard ride before kids move on to bicycles.

A Strider is a two-wheeled, pedal-less bike—what’s commonly called a balance bike—that children straddle and propel with their feet.

Unlike tricycles, it requires kids to balance on their own, which is why it’s popular for developing their sense of balance.

It’s also said that riding one helps children run faster.

hula hoop

A hula hoop is a toy you spin around your body.

The most popular way to play is to spin it around your waist while keeping your balance, but there are many other ways to enjoy it—jumping through it like a jump rope or playing pretend train, for example.

If you have several hula hoops, you can also play hopscotch or crawl through them like tunnels! There are collapsible and foldable types as well, so storage is no problem.

It’s a handy toy that you can play with alone or use to compete and cooperate with friends.

hopping

Hopping is a fun activity where you bounce up and down.

You place your feet on the foothold attached to a single stick, hold the handle firmly, and use the spring to jump and play.

It takes a bit of practice to get started, but once you get the hang of it, you can keep bouncing without putting your feet down for many jumps.

There are a variety of colors and designs, and even some quirky options, so choosing one is part of the fun.

It helps children develop basic motor skills, and for adults it can even be an effective workout for weight loss—so why not try playing together with your kids?

Working vehicles

Working Vehicles: Dump Truck and Mixer Truck Sandbox Toys for Kids (Sand Play Tools)
Working vehicles

For small children, cars with wheels that they can move by themselves are one of the most useful toys, both at home and outdoors.

By collecting different types—like dump trucks, excavators, and mixer trucks—they can also learn what each vehicle does.

Playing together with friends’ vehicles offers even more learning opportunities.

Don’t forget to wash toys thoroughly after using them outside before bringing them back indoors.

There are also deluxe sandbox sets that come with vehicles included.

Insect net and bug cage

Many adults say they’re not fond of insects, but kids love them.

Especially boys—don’t you think many of them are into bugs? In places with lots of nature, you can catch different insects depending on the season.

In spring there are butterflies, in summer cicadas, and in autumn dragonflies—so you can collect all kinds of insects in the same spot throughout the year.

Speaking of bug catching, you think of a bug net and a bug cage.

These days, you can easily get cute character-themed ones, and even pick them up at 100-yen shops.

kite

Fly! Fairy Pitta Kite [Tried Flying a Bird Kite for Fun]
kite

Kites have long been a favorite New Year’s toy for many children.

In addition to the classic shapes like squares and triangles, many kites are sold in the shapes of various animals.

They often come in bright colors, and some even feature popular anime characters, making them visually fun as well.

If you hold the kite string and run with some momentum, the kite will lift into the air.

If you can catch the wind just right, it will stay aloft for a long time.

It takes a bit of technique, but getting a kite to fly well feels great.

Note that some parks prohibit kite flying because of the risk of collisions or falling kites, so be sure to check the rules before you play!

In conclusion

Did you find a toy or product you want to play with? Some can even be found at 100-yen shops, so if you’re looking for something to casually enjoy with your child, consider stopping by.

When playing with adults, choosing items with slightly higher quality can make it even more fun.

At the park, let’s follow the rules and have a good time.
