[Positive Breakup Songs] Love Songs and Anthems That Give You the Courage to Take a New Step (141–150)

Hello, Sadnesssaitou yuki

Hello Sadness, sung by Yuki Saito, is also well known as the opening theme for the Fuji TV–affiliated anime Maison Ikkoku.

She also appeared that year on NHK’s 37th Kōhaku Uta Gassen, where she performed Hello Sadness.

The song expresses a girl’s feelings about moving forward with a positive outlook on life.

This is a song I first encountered through Hideaki Tokunaga’s cover.

The Olivia mentioned in the lyrics refers to Olivia Newton-John, a singer she herself often listened to at the time.

The lyrics are sweet and bittersweet, but the beautiful, uplifting sound makes me feel comfortable every time I listen to it.

It’s an upbeat breakup song.

I think the vocals reflect how she felt at the time.

In the media, it was touted as Tomo-chan’s precious voice while she was heartbroken after breaking up with TK.

In a way, I think it became a landmark release.

I’m sure many people became fans of Tomo-chan because of this track.

As I wrote earlier, her voice sounds a bit like a Vocaloid, but I think the song really conveys her mindset back then.

A weekend close to the skyImai Miki

“A Weekend Close to the Sky” is a masterpiece that has been etched into the hearts of many people.

Personally, I’ve loved it for a long time.

It’s also a song that parents and children can enjoy together.

Beyond that, this is a true artist with many other songs I love, like “Boogie Woogie,” “Hitori de,” and “Chijo.” Usually, there’s at least one track on an album that I don’t care for, but with this artist there isn’t a single one—no complaints at all.

Catch the loveyayuyo

Yayuyo is a rock band that debuted in 2019.

Their song “Ai wo Tsukamaete” is a cheer-up anthem for anyone nursing a broken heart.

Told from the perspective of a woman after a breakup, it digs into the question of what love really is.

Even though they split up, they must have loved each other—this song makes you reflect on that contradiction.

And the answer offered within the song is sure to be soothing.

Plus, its intense, rock-driven sound keeps the mood from getting too gloomy, which is another strong point.
