[Using Fabric Scraps] Coaster

Easy Coaster Made from Fabric Scraps: Layer → Sew → Cut to Finish ★ by Keikoton
[Using Fabric Scraps] Coaster

Lightweight and durable coasters made from fabric scraps are charming because they showcase the fabric’s patterns so well.

The process is very simple: layer the fabrics and sew them together, then trim the excess.

How many layers you use will determine the final durability, so keep the number of layers and the types of fabrics in mind as you work.

Since the coasters are for placing drinks and may be exposed to condensation, it’s best to choose fabrics that are as non-slip as possible.

It could also look great to piece together different fabrics for a patchwork-style finish.

[Tsumami Zaiku] Sunflower Hair Ornament

[Tsumami Zaiku Sunflower] How to make it: easy, beginner-friendly, summer vacation craft, hair ornament, hairpin, yukata hair accessory, kimono hair accessory, traditional Japanese style, hair accessory, kanzashi flowers
[Tsumami Zaiku] Sunflower Hair Ornament

This is a sunflower hair ornament made by combining petal parts created with tsumami-zaiku, a craft in which you pinch and shape fabric with tweezers to form parts.

The most important element is how you fold the petals: fold a square piece of fabric while minding the reverse side, then add pressure with tweezers or your fingers and set it with adhesive.

Once the petals are finished, arrange and glue them onto the base attached to a hairpin, then add the center piece and leaf parts to complete it.

Aim for a soft look by refining how you fold and set the parts and by using materials like chirimen crepe.

[Sewing Machine] Cup Sleeve

[Sewing Machine] Cup Sleeve

Those takeout drink cups you buy at convenience stores or coffee shops can be awkward to carry, right? That’s when this cup holder comes in handy for easy carrying.

Prepare two fabric scraps, place fusible interfacing on top of one scrap, and press with an iron.

Cut the other scrap into a 50 cm strip to make the hanging strap.

Attach the strap to the fabric with the interfacing, then layer the other scrap on top, sew around, and turn it right side out.

Stitch along the top and bottom edges to reinforce, and you’re done.

It’s low-profile, so when you’re not using it, just tuck it in your bag.

Give it a try!

[Cotton Yarn] Lantern Shade

How to make a lampshade *How to make lamp shade*
[Cotton Yarn] Lantern Shade

Let’s make a lampshade out of string.

You can buy all the materials at a 100-yen shop or similar store.

You’ll need water balloons, cotton yarn, glue, an LED string light, batteries, and a brush.

First, inflate a water balloon into a round shape.

A diameter of about 5–6 centimeters is best.

After inflating as many balloons as you need, make a stiffening paste for the yarn by mixing glue.

Add a little water to thin it so it’s easier to apply.

Dip the yarn into the glue and wrap it around the balloon.

Keep applying glue as you wind the yarn, making sure the balloon underneath is no longer visible.

When finished, let it dry.

Once it’s completely dry, pop the balloon with a needle and remove it.

Insert the LED string light inside, and you’re done.

[100-yen shop] Tenugui eco bag

An eco-friendly tote bag made from a tenugui in just 3 minutes 😆 Amazingly simple with no cutting at all 💖 And it’s cute, too 😊
[100-yen shop] Tenugui eco bag

Let’s make an eco-bag using a tenugui (Japanese hand towel) you can buy at a 100-yen shop.

It’s inexpensive and easy to make, so give it a try.

Choose a tenugui with your preferred color or pattern, fold it in half with the right sides facing each other, and then sew the lower half of the open (non-folded) side.

After sewing, rotate it 90 degrees and sew straight across the bottom.

Gather pleats along the folded edge, stitch them together, and you’re done.

If you’re worried about items falling out, you can sew on a button and elastic as a closure.
