Recommended Japanese punk bands: Japan’s representative punks (41–50)
dawdlingjagatara
A band that incorporated ska music and proposed a new punk style in Japan.
At the time, it was rare to include horns in music.
However, their behavior was utterly unruly, and they influenced many bands beyond just their music.
Chain ReactionSHADOWS

SHADOWS delivers high-energy melodic hardcore.
Formed in 2016 by former members of FACT, they champion a ’90s revival while pursuing a new form of melodic hardcore.
Their debut live EP, “Extrance,” was recorded as a live session, and its raw sound is part of the appeal.
In 2018, they released the album “torches” and embarked on a tour.
Their songs blend death growls and shouts with catchy melodies, creating a uniquely compelling style.
With EPs sold exclusively at live venues, they also maintain a close connection with their fans.
If you’re into punk or hardcore, definitely give them a listen!
Jokingdizzy sunfist

The vocalist is a woman, but Osaka punk band Dizzy Sunfist delivers songs every bit as cool and powerful as any male-fronted act.
They’re a three-piece with the drummer being the only man—a rare lineup—but as you can hear in this track, they’re bursting with intensity.
It’s not just the melodies; their performance radiates strength too, marking them as a highly promising young band.
Hymn to Japangedō

A band that expressed the core elements of punk as seen in UK groups like The Damned.
By incorporating Japan’s historical background into their musicality and playing style, they created a new possibility for the emerging Japanese punk scene.
Way3style

This is a song by 3style, a three-piece melodic punk band from Chiba Prefecture.
Whenever this ultra-aggressive, uptempo track is played, the live house erupts into a frenzy.
Although they disbanded to much regret and probably aren’t widely known, I think they were one of the best live bands of the 2010s.
If I sing to the sky175R

175R’s signature song “Sora ni Utaeba” is a track that truly embodies Japanese punk rock, with straightforward, manly lyrics that resonate deeply.
The song even earned them a spot on the Kōhaku Uta Gassen, and it can be called a masterpiece that sparked a revolution in Japanese punk rock at the time.
When it was released, MiniDiscs were widespread, and there were surely many people making their own 175R best-of compilations.
Live Your Heart and Always FollowFOR A REASON

This is a track by the hardcore band FOR A REASON.
They’re a very underground band, and it might be rare to come across them.
Still, they’re the kind of passionate band that makes you wish more light would shine on groups like them.
